Remind me again…you’re Zander’s uncle? I think we met at a game a few years ago (I used to post as GregAmsler). I was with Mr. Connell and he introduced us, if I’m remembering correctly.

I just read that maybe someday we can figure it out and I could get Z to sign your copy of Pic? It could happen.. definitely after the season I can think about logistics....

The hat came off many times on the mound when he threw because of how he threw with conviction. No doubt he wanted it badly and I felt the same way when he was out there as far as winning. Great kid and we were blessed to have him.

He did. And coach uses that word, conviction, Z started using it. His pitching coach in GA was awesome. He gets all the credit for Zander's finess. He told him, your follow thru; your left hand should be able to pick up a dollar on the ground. But Z's head is a bit small. It always came off with that motion. The only thing we did not try to keep his hat on, is stapling to his head. But we thought about it. Some UT fans were really bothered by it . Just second nature to him...

It amazes me what people can get worked up about. Every time I see a kid pitch out of his hat now, it makes me smile. That will always be one of Zander's "things" for me.

He is unassuming. You don't realize until you are not around him, just how much you miss him and his weirdness....
When he was in "baby school" like 3 years old. We all went to my mom's for vacation. The girls from the school called to the house and wanted to talk to him because they missed him. He was a wonderful baby. Slept thru the night at 6 weeks old..

Story time, gather 'round.
Z plays for Mighty Mussels. Minnesota Twins signs free agent LHP Brennen Oxford to a minor league contract and he is assigned to Mighty Mussels on 12May25.
Z mentions to person in charge of rooming, which I am completely shocked he would even do this, he tells them "it probably would be best not to place Brennen with me. I don't think it would work out".
Z has never not gotten along with anyone, so can't believe he even bothered saying anything. He is Switzerland. Very neutral.
Naturally, Brennen is of course, promptly assigned as Z's roommate. Z is like "what am I gonna do? I am never going to hear the end of it and it will be the only thing he ever talks about". A few weeks go by and Z and Brennen are thick as thieves but with a little chirp every once in a while about it.
I think they will eventually be in each other's weddings.











Brennen Oxford is the pitcher who threw the ball for Blake's "did not go" swing in the Friday night game in Omaha.

Z was able to catch up with him and Z went to watch him pitch in Omaha.

Former Branch teammates Sechrist, Armstrong set to meet in Omaha in CWS

When longtime friends Zander Sechrist and Andrew Armstrong walked off the diamond in 2020 for the last time as Flowery Branch seniors and teammates, they looked at each other and said, somewhat jokingly, “see you in Omaha!”

Okay...we will work on that for this fall for sure. I believe Z will be living in Knoxville for the fall 2025, to work out on campus, etc. And to meet up with any of the guys who do the same. Quite a number of them do come back during fall. I am sure he will run home to Buford a time or 2 so we will figure it out to get that signed....
