Vols Hoops assistant Adam Howard resigns

Rob Lewis said that Howard resigning was definitely not Tyndall's choice, so that would rule out the scapegoat idea. What it appears like, at least to me is Hart trying to get ahead of the NCAA, will it be enough is the question. Similar to how Pearl took a suspension mid season to hopefully appease the NCAA, this seems very similar, at least to me.

Dave "The Hitman" Hart is in a tough spot for sure. CDT's transgressions at USM have already impacted his program. This situation will have heavy collateral damage before it concludes.

I dont think it will. I think that once the 'AA' has an agenda they are pretty much bent on carrying it out. Then again that is jmo

The only way that him resigning makes sense based on what Lewis said though, is that Howard was ultimately (and almost solely) responsible for whatever the NCAA has on Tyndall and his tenure at USM.

Do we really believe that? I mean, how else does Howard resigning appease the NCAA? It doesn't make a lot of sense for him to resign to give an appearance of self-policing unless he was the main culprit, which is entirely possible I guess, but I have a hard time believing a low-level assistant was pulling these kinds of strings without knowledge (and more likely, instruction) by his employer. In this case, Tyndall.

Unless that's just the guy that they're gonna try to put the majority of it on, and take the his word against our word stance, but who knows, I definitely get what you're saying.

I think maybe Hart is hoping the NCAA will take it as a proactive step by Tennessee and that maybe because of it his punishment will be a bit lighter, therefore making it easier for Hart to justify retaining him.

Like you said though, if it wasn't Tyndall's preference for him to leave, it sort of rules out the scapegoat theory. Unless that is just the perception they hope to put out in plain sight.

Do have to give props to the university head staff for how this is being handled, most of my ky friends have no idea this is going on

We won't pay enough for them. Dave Bliss IMO.

Dave Bliss is the athletic director at a small private school in College Station/Bryan. He was accused of illegally recruiting basketball players, and instead of answering the allegations, he just moved the school to a different Private School governing body. Seriously though, I wouldn't let my high school kid play for Dave Bliss unless he was giving me some serious money.

He is the standard-bearer for scum.

That could be. It could be that Hart is biding his time. I think we play three games in four days, all on television starting on Thursday. It's one thing to have a couple of assistants resign, it's another to have the topic of the day about the head coach resigning or getting fired.

I don't know how much sense that makes, just throwing it out there.

You may have something there....

This is the beginning.

Just from what I'm hearing expect a new coach in April. Not 100% but it doesn't look good.

JMO, but if I'm Hart and this appears to be the way things are headed, use this as an opportunity. Nobody else is going to be looking for a coach, or publicly pursuing them and offering during the season, if I'm Hart and I know Tyndall is gone at the end of the season, I seriously consider making the move around the new year.

Let Pinkins take over, and get a 3-4 month head start on all the other schools out there, that's similar to what Auburn did with Barbee, although not quite as early. Make the move, identify a few guys, this time actually do your thorough vetting process, and have someone hired in March so it's the talk around the NCAA's and the guy can start assembling a staff before the spring signing period.

This. If it's over, it's over. Cut him loose. Hopefully they can bring in someone who has an energetic style, can recruit, and manages to keep this roster somewhat intact. There are a lot of good pieces to start building on.
