He’s a technically solid coach who’s become a superstar recruiter...only separation. His players aren’t better because of some superior teaching, they’re better because he recruited them that way. His rep started with bringing Dan Skipper with him to Arkansas. 6’10 3 star but perfect for what Bieliema wanted. He built off of that and Saban noticed and tried to pry him away for a million per. It took UGA to get him and since then he’s landed 5 star beast one after another. His relationships with those kids are what’s going to keep him there. If Friend closes Wright to cap off this OL class, I think we’ll see that same dynamic in Knoxville. The big uglies start flocking to where previous big uglies roam. Doesn’t hurt when your OC has NFL chops as an OL coach either.

Friend is actually a good oline coach and if he stays in that position they'll get better, got to add some size and alittle better players with some effort

This is false, unless you somehow knew that UGA was going to the natty and playoffs in year 2. If richt ever won a game as a big as the OU playoff game at UGA, I don’t remember it. You can say richt and smart have had similar starts outside of the natty appearance and recruiting, but richt wasn’t fired for his first 3 years. As for Cheney, he’s a good OC. Some of his game plans have been amazing, like first half of bama, but it seems he’s unable to make any adjustments when those plans don’t work, like LSU/auburn/Texas and he struggled in the red zone. Imo it was a solid hire since UT definitely could’ve done worse. It is funny that UT/Arkansas fans were laughing at UGA when they hired Cheney though.

And I was on record LAST WEEK stating why I didn't think Cheney would be a good hire. So I've been against hiring Cheney back here since watching his first stretch here... He had the BEST talent on offense that he was ever gonna have at UGa over the past 2 years and couldn't beat a mediocre LSU team. And that kept UGA out of the playoff. I'm not trying to make anybody mad... I just think that CJP was forced to hire someone who he didn't want to hire. that's all.

Chaney is the best OC we've had outside of Cutcliffe! This is outstanding on 2 fronts. WE took Georgia's OC and we made a homerun hire!

The irony of both Chaney and Pittman going to UT would be delicious as it relates to Cade Mays. He chose GA over UT partly to be coached by these guys and now they both might wind up in Knoxville

Is highest oc....no but don't act like he didn't have y'all in national championship game last year and in sec title game this year....wait who really lost those games idk....there were quite bit points put up against that vaulted defense of kirby's!!!!! Point is he's a pretty dang good coordinator.....UGA fans literally are the worse....ignorant......defense wins championships and his offenses did enough for that.....this is not big 12

I would be of the opinion that the 05 SECCG win over LSU would be of comparison to the playoff win, because if you do not win the National Championship the playoff was just a glorified bowl game. Regardless the point was, Georgia under Richt underachieved in one of the most talent rich locations in the country and choked with said talent. Same as what Kirby has done thus far. If and only if Smart ever brings you a National title then I'll admit I'm wrong, but history is not on your side at all.

If this is actually true (I reserve judgement until I actually hear the words come out of CJP's mouth) I think this is a very good hire. I like what he did when he was here and he had a very good run at UGA. He should have the type of offense scheme that CJP is wanting, and is known as an excellent QB coach.

My only problem is that the OC search is over. Now where am I going to read the type of slowly building insanity this board has shown since it started? What are miserable moaners going stress over now???:eek:

Don’t know if discussed. How much will Chaney improve Chandler and Gray game. Chaney will get the ball out in space in the passing game for these 2 to make plays out of the backfield.

Wolken is just butt-hurt that he was exposed as Currie's water carrying bi!@h-boy. Tee'd off on Vol Nation when we had the gall to reject OSU's scraps and then embarrassed when our fanbase was vindicated by OSU not even allowing the Golden Child to be Interim Head Coach when Meyer was suspended. Seriously, Danny....Chaney hire is funny? Yeah, nearly as funny as your haircut or those Spirit Halloween Yoda ears plastered to the side of your head.

Richt never won a game that got him to a championship and Kirby has. I’d also say 2017 would definitely be an overachieving year, but you’re entitled to your opinion. I’ll agree that richt was a big underachiever at UGA, but that happened after the first 3 years ppl like to compare to smart. I do think the UGA fans saying they’re happy Cheney is gone is a bit of sour grapes. It’s always better to get a proven name than hope to hit on a high risk high reward unknown. While Coley is a better recruiter than Cheney I also think Cheney is a better OC.

I listened to him on one of the radio stations when driving through Georgia one night. He is a BIG proponent of looking at dynamite kids that are DL players in high school first for OL positions in college. Said he spends most of his time when reviewing kids in high school looking at DL kids and their tape first. It's the old school Miami formula reinvigorated.
