Guy can stfu

For the Vols! This may very well be the motivation our team needs, nothing sparks a fire in players better then "you don't deserve or your not good enough" I hope all our players know about this article!

Ok, riddle me this: What would you rather have heading into the next year to give you confidence? A beatdown of Northwestern in a bowl game or a narrow marquise SEC regular season win over Alabama or Florida?

We all know the answer. You can say it.

It's so cute when you try and use big words.

A win over UF would be nice for confidence and standings but not a marquee win. Bama would be one. Don't believe you're on their tier

It's a preseason poll and the article used past performance as an indicator. Surely even you can see why the bowl (the last time UT took the field) is relevant. It's not like this is economics or something you will never understand. This is easier

#10 sounds about right to me... Stop being negative and living in the past. This is 2016, Team 120, and a team that is going to kick a lot of teams a$$’s.... GO BIG ORANGE

Sure. Ergo recognition for the potential.

But it's a big jump from that to Top Ten. Without wins over an Alabama or a Florida or an LSU or the like, it's still just potential.

Pre-season polls can NEVER be based on anything more than perceived potential.

Bama is #1 in spite of losing their top two rushers, QB, top punt returner, top kick returner, 3 of their top 5 tacklers including Ragland,....

They have all new coaches save one on D....

They lost two starting OL's as well.

None of this PROVES they won't be every bit as good as advertised... but to say they will is perception... speculation.

This guy is a dweeb. His opinion doesn't matter.

It amazes me how many of these "professionals'" media pictures look like they went to sleep in a shirt and tie and 8 hours later rolled directly out of bed immediately into the photo booth and said 'cheese'.

What makes me mad about this kinda stuff is he is basing everything on the past "decade" and "last year" well I hope he understands this isn't last year or last decade. F him!

Dude, it was Northwestern. They got creamed by the two decent Big Ten teams they played, Michigan and Iowa, by a combined 78-10.

78-10 !!

You'll have to excuse me if I'm not all googley eyes over that resume.

What's interesting is that looking at the Wolverines' 2015 schedule, Northwestern blowout was probably Michigan's premier win of the season, and they are ranked higher in the preseason Top 10 than UT. Makes you wonder if Michigan fans are having a similar discussion with tOSU fans on the Michigan boards as we are here with UF fans.

Is this dude retarded? Back to back top 5 recruiting classes?

If you're the best team in the SEC East, you're gonna be in the Top 15.

Well, to be completely candid, right now I'd say that the discussion between tOSU and Michigan fans has a whole lot more at stake than the conversation between UT and UF fans.

I think 10 is a good starting point for this team. Just the right spot to give them confidence and realize some of the hard work put in but with articles like this and 9 teams ahead, should keep them hungry. IF this poll were accurate I'm even more pumped about the season ahead. We would only play 3 ranked teams. Two of those, against our two biggest rivals, are at home. Then outside of Alabama and Florida is Georgia. Georgia being the only ranked team on the road. Now I know it's just a preseason poll but if it's accurate in regard to the other teams and you look at our schedule, I don't know how we're not top 10.

Jesus f-ing Christ. So many ppl want to harp on the last decade like UT will stink forever! It's ignorant of them to think a team cannot improve. Which is all that Butch has done since coming to UT. Improved in the win column each season by 2 games and have won back 2 back bowl games in sounding fashion. Oh and the recruiting is back to the standard we all expect. The only way to shut the haters up is by WINNING.

This^^^ I remember being a student during the 2000-2004 um....we used to curb stomp Alabama. It was a joke, now look at them. Teams and trends change. We will physically and experience wise be the best team when we step on the field every Saturday and Thursday this fall compared to the opponents that we will face. This includes UF and UA. Check the stars of both teams from HS we have them beat this year and a ton more snaps under our belts than either of them as well. UA replacing entire backfield and UF doing like wise as well as most of their defense. Will they be terrible?? No probably not, but looking at these games on paper how in the world can you pick UT to lose?

Vegas is also something to take in to consideration why would they have us 12 point favorites??? Just like losing money I guess??? No everyone with a pair of eyes has seen the teams through spring and summer and now start of fall camp. They finished their season getting their teeth kicked in and we were kicking in the teeth of everyone we played. Oh and our entire team is back. So what is we've lost to them 11 straight does it matter what happened in 2005??? Anyone form that team still here? Nope. This year will be different, I don't know what other evidence you will need. GBO!!

Ergo recognition of recent trends: 27-2; 29-15; 41-7.

And in this respect he has succeeded.

Reminds me of the college football mags back in the 80s. Don't know if it is still the case, but they changed the cover depending on where the mag was going to be sold. If in Gainesville, it was a pic and lead story about the Gators, if Knoxville it was about UT.

Never did compare the content, but I'd not be surprised if it has all been about taking advantage of these loyalties, often times not very rational.

Oh they still do it.

I remember being about 13 or 14 when we went to the Panama City for vacation one summer. I had forgotten to pick up Lindy's before we left, so when we stopped in Birmingham I was going to grab one. I was so mad when I saw they had a Bama/Auburn cover.

It was like Ralphie when he realizes his decoder pin is just for a stupid commercial.

Oh, I don't know. I'm pretty sure I want that fvking 11-season streak to be over as much or more than a Michigan fan wants to return to being an NC contender.

14 guys from 2014 are gone, including seven 4*. We've had better luck with the 15' class.

Mike Huguenin, managing editor of GridironNow was on 104.5 The Zone in Nashville this morning and was asked about Tennessee's team and 2016 expectations. He said SEC coaches respect the assembled talent/players on Tennessee's roster. He also said that SEC coaches "don't worry about being out coached" when playing Tennessee. Said that the poor in-game coaching was responsible for blowing the leads we did last season.

His comments were also partly in response to being asked about Gary Danielson's remarks about Tennessee being the least prepared to win close/big games.

Thats downright insulting. But I don't doubt it, same thing Spurrier and Meyer said about us.

I've got to think that has changed, though, in the off season. I think CBJ has probably come to the realization that he has to stay at least somewhat aggressive in the last 5 minutes of the close games.

Holy moly! Is that McElwains son or do they just go to the same imaginary dentist?

Anyways I agree he is living in the past. You don't have Dooley here recruiting and I have seen a few stories of writers saying UT is underrated and should be breaking the top 5 preseason polls.

Them teeth doe! Eeek

People get way too bent out of shape about this stuff. The Vols and everyone else in the league get 12 chances to prove who they are. The rest is just conjecture.

There are so many "media" outlets today, if you look long enough, you can find someone who'll say almost anything. They're just trying to stand out from the crowd. It's all about the page views and ringing the till.

Personally, I don`t understand all the hype and very high expectations for the upcoming season.
Last year we barely made a bowl game and all of a sudden after an off season some have us winning almost everything.
Can a team make that much of an improvement in one off season?.
I`m taking a wait and see attitude.
Beat Florida, Bama, and Georgia, then we will talk about rankings.

Who is "we" in your post? UT easily made a bowl game and did pretty well when they got there
