Vols Going with Nike

Nike cleats suck IMO. I used to wear an insanely expensive pair of Nike cleats and both of my big toenails were ripped off on separate occasions wearing those pieces of crap.

You sure that was not those flips with the little spikes on the bottom. :p

I really like nike. I buy their stuff exclusively other than my asics shoes. Their fan apparel is way better overall. So, if the difference in quality isn't much different, then why not go with the big name with the cool style. Obviously I won't be playing, so I just need the fan gear, which I like a lot more than addidas. I'm pretty stoked about it actually. Butch has put our program into house cleaning mode. Change is good here.

I think this is a good change. This will just be something else Butch can use to lure in recruits. Whether you believe it or not, Nike will help us lure in more recruits just off the possibilities of uniform changes.

When I think of Nike, I think of Uncle Rico throwing footballs in front of the video camera.

Ok. I'm thinking about how I want one of those pullovers Manning had on this week at media days. You know at the Super Bowl where the greatest football players on the planet are playing, wearing Nike football uniforms.

The same for Nike basketball shoes especially Jordans......

If it really does help recruiting and the UTAD gets more money, then great. We will see. I will take all my butthurt elsewhere now.

Wonder if Butch was dropping some hints to some of this year's class. If it is indeed that big of a recruiting tool.

Personally I'd rather wear baby gap than Nike 90% of the time. I loved Adidas, and feel it looks and holds up a lot better than Nike. Oh well, guess we're supporting Oregon now.

The biggest beneficiary in this isn't even football in my opinion but basketball.

Huge benefit to having access to their high school camps.

This! I don't think it will effect football at all, except we'll probably get an alternate jersey that's even brighter orange.

If there is a big impact at all, it should be with basketball. The Nike brand is far superior when it comes to basketball and it's not close. Jordan, Kobe. Lebron, KD, Melo, you get the gist.

A bunch of stubborn old heads in here.

Have to accept times are changing, what you guys think looks "good" is totally different than what the younger crowd thinks.

Really? Call B.S. all you want. Doesn't change facts. This is my last post, I guess facts are not welcome here.
Dude, you are going to have to grow some thicker skin if you want to survive on message boards. I happen to agree with your postings on this topic. But not everyone is going to.

I'm not sure which is more pathetic: that a recruit might choose a school based on what apparel company it uses, or that a school might change it's vender based on what recruits want.

You seem surprised that a 17 year old kid is influenced by what is considered "cool" and "sexy".

Recruiting is the lifeblood of a college football program. If you don't get great players, you don't survive as a coach. Nike sponsors camps in both football and basketball. Nike opens doors. Kids like Nike. You may think it's sad, but it's the way of the world.

I'd LOL if this weren't so painful. My son had the exact same thing happen last year. Brand new pair of expensive Nike soccer cleats and both big toenails fell off a week after the first time he wore them. The shoes are perfectly sized, but pinch way too much on the top of the toes. He's never had this happen with any cleats in 12 years of playing soccer.

Hope football cleats don't produce the same results!
