Vols Going with Nike

Without pouring through the thread, do we know any details about the partnership yet? How much the deal is worth? Uniform control?

Isn't Adidas mostly soccer crap? I know I can't stand most their apparel we've been forced to buy as TN fans. I'm very excited about the Nike switch

forced to buy? Nike has been making UT gear the whole time if that's what you preferred

Nike has been the "cool" brand since the late 80s/early 90s and they continue to be. They have an unparalleled pr machine that's convinced young kids for 20+ years that their shoes aren't the best but they'll make you cool so buy them anyway. And that resonates with football and basketball recruits. It will be fine. I'm looking forward to what they bring to the table. Besides, wouldn't all you patriots want your team decked out in gear from an American company, not a German one?

That's what I perceive it as also, I'm very happy with the switch.

Can't wait to start buying some gear

I'm not sure which is more pathetic: that a recruit might choose a school based on what apparel company it uses, or that a school might change it's vender based on what recruits want.

So much ignorance in this last part, I dont know where to begin...

This! I don't think it will effect football at all, except we'll probably get an alternate jersey that's even brighter orange.

will be interesting...

I personally think some of the opposition to Nike is because some people like to oppose what they think are fads just because they dislike fads. Nothing more, nothing less.

Unfortunately, when you are trying to appeal to juveniles, fads are all that matter.

For example, my daughter wants an Iphone. I have had Verizon salesmen and US Cellular salesmen explain to her that Samsung Galaxies are better. She still wants the I phone.

Why? To be "cool".

So do we know of the details behind the deal? How much money it's worth? How much less did we take to make the switch?

Not true at all.

I've been wearing Brooks running shoes for the last 2 years because my dad works for Fruit of the Loom and their parent company owns Brooks so we get massive discounts. I've had 3 pairs, all of which retail for $115+, and none were as comfortable as the $55 Nike's I purchased 2 weeks ago. For the first time in over a year, I can finally run without my plantar fasciitis acting up. I bought a pair of Brooks last year, only to turn around and buy their top of the line shoe less than 2 months later and they did nothing to ease the pain. I believe some of Nike's stuff is overpriced (which is why I stick to their middle of the road stuff) but I cant argue with their comfort.

Spot on. Ppl need to stop being selfish.. We should want every recruiting advantage possible.
