Vols Fall Practice #9

I think you have to be worried about the combo of both. You say JA is a gamer but there is nothing from his past that indicates that to be true maybe you meant we hope he is a gamer. This offense is going to fragile this fall and is one injury away from being in big trouble IMO.
What planet do you live on? Everything in his past says he is a gamer. The dude passed for 3000 yards last year and 3700 yards in 23 not to mention 56 total tds. He also has rushed for another 450 yds.

Meh. I think everybody is getting too upset about QB practice reports. Aguilar is a gamer and he will be fine on game day. Let's not forget the Hooker's numbers didn't look that good compared to Milton until game day. If you want to worry about something, worry about the WRs. That may be a concern if they don't step it up.
Guarantano. The best practice player there ever was. I truly feel for that kid. He deserved better than what he got here.

I am sorry but a record of 5-6 with 24 TD’s and 13 INT’s and a QBR of 66 doesn’t scream gamer to me. To each his own though.

Well, just for reference: Josh Dobb’s 40-time was 4.6, Hendon Hooker’s last calculated 40 was 4.9, Joey Aguilar’s estimated 40, per draftscout.com, is 4.75. This is why JH recruited him. GBO!

His speed places him squarely between two solid UT QB’s and in the same QB speed class as
Patrick Mahomes and Michael Vick…pretty good company actually! GBO!

Heupel didn’t recruit him. He hit the portal and we immediately contacted and signed him because we needed a qb

What's going on with the WR core? This is not an coincidence....seems like every year we hear and see that the WR's are dropping passes. Like how is Mike Matthew's not seeing the field and dropping passes 1 yeae in? What?

I am highly concerned. I think this is the year where Heupel may have to make a difficult decision about Pope. Last year they stunk, and the sparse reports we get out of fall camp indicate they are questionable again.

I'm really surprised they retained Pope. Nothing against him but none of the receivers recruited under this coaching staff have done anything or turned into anything. Hyatt was recruited by Pruitt.

Like Squirrel white and Nimrod were huge disappointments to me.

Not saying any bad throw or drop is good, but all we're hearing about is the first few minutes of practice when these guys are warming up. They are likely going 1.5 - 2 hours that we don't see or hear about. I know the mantra is every minute every rep give your all, but it is just human nature that you're not going to get that edge on when you're running warm up routes on air. They all may suck or be first round NFL picks but you'll never know just watching 10 minutes of warm up routes on air.

Situation plays a lot into that. App State last year had a pitiful o-line. You’re gonna run into more interceptions that way. Watch a couple of App States games last year and you’ll see exactly what I’m referring to.

This is true but we've also seen similar issues in the previous 2 years in the press practice sessions, then been a bit disappointed with the drops in games.

It's not as though this is a new thing in the press practice for the past couple of years and it has, apparently, foreshadowed some bad drops in games.

Heup may have to let Pope and Hazel go after this season but Heup never fires anybody. Honestly our receivers and offensive play calling have been subpar since Alex Golesh left.

I know we've seen a lot of overthrown passes and I hate to be "picky" but..... Yikes.

I would rather see passes sail 10yds than come back the wrong way.
Slightly under thrown is often very good on deep shots. The receiver can adjust and DB’s will often interfere on slightly under thrown deep ball’s trying to catch up. Especially on the perimeter. Slightly over thrown over the middle of the field is a different story.

Seems like 90 percent of practice reports is about passing against air. Hardly nothing on individual units. Merk has problem if he can’t complete more than 6-15 against air. Maybe a few should have been caught but I would almost bet accuracy had a lot to do with that percentage. I highly doubt there were 9 pure drops out of 15. If there was everybody needs to run. I could catch 6 out of 15 if they were catchable passes. Don’t seem like our practice observers are getting to watch much, so it’s hard putting much stock in very limited observations many quarterbacks throwing to receivers with nobody covering them.
Yeah. I was hoping to get some little information on the rest of the posistion groups.

Defensive backs are equally a question imo.

So if White had more receptions than Hyatt would that change you mind?

The opposite of this. Underthrown deep balls give the WR a chance to make a play. Their WR always has the advantage in those situations. An overthrow gives the WR no chance.

Milton and Nico could’ve used a lot more underthrows.
