Vols Fall Practice #4

Joe did start.

And then got hurt.
Then he was tremendously outplayed by Hooker over the majority of the two seasons.

JG also a practice player that was never really challenged by at least an average QB
Yep. But nothing about Joe starting over Hendon was baffling...practice reports indicated he was ahead. Thinking it was baffling is hindsight thinking.

This. And I recall those thinking Bailey or Maurer should get reps at QB2 when Milton went down.

Personally, I saw Hooker as developing into a coach, not a phenomenal starter because I liked his demeanor but his practice performance was said to be "meh."

Call me for all your coaching needs. No one else will......

Merk might have to be the dude
Despite what the fans who watched the OW game say Merk is a talented QB who was always going to push for the started position after what’s his name left. Merk was a 2 sport star in HS and did not camp like some of the higher rated in his class and if he had he would have been more highly recruited.

Whether he starts or not we need him to push JA to make him better or vice verse.

I honestly wonder if we need to be working more of our defensive backs at receiver at this point. A few of them could probably play if needed starting with the younger Brazzell.
Carter and Poteat best options

Carter played both ways in school but Poteat is kinda following his Dad.

Travis Hunter playing both ways was exceptional but I'm not sure a lot of guys these day can be effective both ways.

Weakening the D to strengthen the Offense seems iffy.
Boo will see some O snaps but nothing like Hunter or at least I don't think he will. Not sure where Poteat stands in the DB pecking order but he's not likely to see much playing time this year as a DB, few snap as a WR wouldn't hurt our D. Tre is a FR so may not add any value other than having another warm body.

7-8 wins would be a good year
IMO, that would be the minimum, the floor.

As others have pointed out, we don't HAVE to insist on giving practice reps to our banged up more experienced guys right now; the reps they don't get at this time go to younger ones who need them as much or more.

What’s going on at center? Over the last few years the upcoming center has been Nichols, Lang, Satterwhite, and now Pendleton. Since Elarbee has been here Cooper and the Alabama transfer are the only ones that have been able to keep coach happy.
