Vols Fall Practice #1

As bad as I hate to I’ll be the first to bring negative energy in here. I’ll preface it by getting this out of the way. “It’s the first practice chill, etc.”

Our WR core is thin as a banjo string. We have no proven running backs. Our QB situation we all knew would be in the air with the competition developing, but I’ve heard from a few different sources that saw practice now combined with a OL saying Merk is the standout qb so far. I know the orange and white game is vanilla and a glorified scrimmage, but how much did the guy improve in 2.5 months of offseason? He looked scary to be honest. The one time he got significant playing time against scrubs last year he was terrifying to watch as well. I am fully preparing to buckle up for what will be an emotional wreck of a ride this year. I hope I’m wrong. Man, would I love to be wrong!
Meek is the standout QB after one practice. OK.

I was giving you a hard time because your initial reply to me was to a post in which I said Thomas isn’t playing this year. Then you asked again if he’s playing this year.

He’s still not. 😛
Oh gotcha 😂 yeah I've been oblivious this whole time to him not being healthy. There's always so much turnover in the secondary (preseason, during the season they usually don't turn their heads around for a turnover lol).

When I heard AP say a few months ago that Thomas won’t play this year, I had the same reaction as you. Surprised it’s taking him so long to recover. He must’ve really wrecked that knee.

I agree that we’re thin at WR but I don’t agree with you about the RBs. I think we have a better 1-2 punch this year than we did last year. We won’t replace Sampsons production in one guy but I think Bishop/Lewis compliment either well. Lewis is unproven but I really like what we saw out of Bishop last year. You’ll have a brute in Bishop and a speedster in Lewis.
Well, Bishop had 455 yards rushing and a 6.1 ypc. Lewis had 339 yards and a 5.3 ypc. Also, Star Thomas had 871 yards 7TDs and a 4.1 ypc as Duke's leading rusher. It's not like we are completely unproven at the position.

Redmond is 6’2” 192 and loves run support and is smart in coverage.

Really can’t wait to see how this kid develops.
With Hood being new and McCoy out he really has a chance to make a move at CB.
I was sitting here thinking the same thing, hope we got a steal here.

Granted, we haven’t seen much of Merk but what we have seen is Peterman-esque. I’m hoping for the unknown (Aguilar) because I can’t envision Merk as a successful CFB QB this season. Of course, I hope I am wrong and this post is thrown back in my face in early January.
