Vols Are Last In The SEC

Consider all the free time you had in college. There was never more before or after. Even when you consider practice and other time committments by varsity athletes, there are many many hours available for academics. When you consider the tutoring time required by coaches, other resources devoted to keep them in school and brain dead jock courses, there's not too many excuses why even a poor student can't get a "C". We know there's more than enough time for partying, wandering Cumberland Ave, getting into fights, etc.

ADs are more responsible for graduation rates than coaches. ADs are supposed to create a climate of academic achievement and provide tools to help kids through school. We have had poor leadership in that area for years.

That's a shame. It's not because they are all leaving early for the NFL either......I bet Dooley will have those numbers up in a couple of years, not only by putting more importance on it, but by the character guys he recruits.

Agreed.

We are usually pretty high on this list. (maybe even #1 at times) I know in previous years other in state schools used UT as a great example of high graduation rates for athletes.

If transfers are counted on this list they shouldn't be. jmo

Has personal accountability just become a complete wash these days? Too many cry babies with exhausted pointer fingers if you ask me.

this thread is kinda useless imo, considering stability over the past couple years

It's not really that shocking. With 3 coaches in 3 years an exodus of players is to be expected. It doesn't mean our players are dumb, just that a large percentage of the players we've recently brought in haven't wanted to play for whichever new coach came to Knoxville.

Wrong. "Graduation Success Rate" is clearly defined as follows:

The percentage of athletes who graduated within
six years after starting college. Outgoing transfers
do not hurt the GSR, so long as the departing
player was in good academic standing. GSRs are
"four class" graduation rates - that is, combined
graduation rates for the four most recent classes
for which information has been reported.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but UT chews 'em up and spits 'em out with the best of them, concerned primarily with winning and keeping your paying butt in the seat. Please remember this next time any of you want to hate on any of these athletes on these boards. Hope y'all enjoy the human carnage.

there percentage and ranking is definatly due to the coaching changes over the last few years.now that dooley is coaching and will be here foo awhile players will stay and not transfer or leave near as much ,i still expect a few to leave the program ever year because it happens everywhere, plus there still some players left over from previous coaches who will leave because of being way down on the depth chart and lack of playing time .

Vandy has had three coaches in three years. And the majority of SEC schools have changed coaches at least once in the last four years. It's not the number of coaches TN has had, but its the quality of coaches that Hammy has hired!

I'm not gonna argue the Hammy part, but the majority of people that go to Vandy go for the education, in other words they're too smart to transfer ...
