Did UT Treat Jancek Unfairly?

Would hate to lose Thig though. Best recruiter we have.

Let me first say that I hope we don't lose Thig. I agree with you. But this way of thinking is part of what has held UT back in years past, I think. We're hesitant to get rid of guys just because they're good recruiters. Bottom line: get the best coaches. We are not MTSU. If we win, all of our coaches will be great recruiters. The brand recruits for itself.

Guys, you're floating all these names out there and CBJ might get someone from inside the program and just replace them. Perhaps, Strip, or Thig? Just throwing that out there for considerstion. Matthews said that CBJ doesn't believe in salaries more than 500 to 600,000. That won't get you a very "famous" DC name. Maybe someone from a small school again.

Butch doesn't want his fellow coaches to be paid their market value? That is just dumb. He is not the AD and accountable for the salary structure and potential buyouts.

We would have to make Bob Shoop the highest paid assistant in the country but I'm sure Butch Jones would be okay with that... it's Dave Hart that would have a problem.

Bud Foster, Lance Thompson are two that haven't been mentioned here, that was mentioned on the Sports Animal.

Also, some have said they don't understand this since our D improved, but remember earlier in the season, after the UF loss, Butch said he was going to be more involved, it's possible that Butch took more of a role with the D, and that caused some riff between he and Jancek.

So by definition we no longer have the best staff in America. :cray:
But wait! That already happened last year when Bajokian left.

Agree. Win and the school recruits itself. I was just thinking of what CBJ has done in the past, and like everyone else on here, hope we can get a DC that can compete with all these other SEC schools.

Matthew's said that if CBJ paid Shoop that kind money, he would have to pay the other coordinator the same, plus raise everyone's salary as well.

We are screwed. Like to know who you are going to get that's better. This is going to start a chain reaction. it was nice while it lasted.

Bob Shoop...come on down!!!

On a serious note, surprised that Jones cut him loose today.

I would have liked to have been a fly on the wall during that conversation. Jancek has done a good job thus far IMO.

I don't know that he would have to at all. As Hubbs reported, the assistants don't have much leverage right now because no one was really sought after by other schools. Sure, he should give them a raise on performance. But it doesn't mean they have to get paid on a level with who they hire. Supply and demand.

Wasn't Wilcox let go from USC. I would be ok with him returning the big orange country

Not if you heard the supposed story as to why he got fired. Essentially in one of the games after USC let go of sarkisian(sp?) they got ran over by some team, either oregon or stanford, due to the fact that one of the opposition's electric players kept getting wide open. A reporter on the sideline quoted the conversation between USC's interim coach and Wilcox, essentially the interim coach asked Wilcox who was responsible for covering a specific play and Wilcox replied he didn't know. No clue if thats true or not, just sharing the story. FWIW I'm not pulling for one person or another, just gonna ride this out and hope for the best.

He loves to party

Georgia scored 24 against PSU. The field goal was after a turnover on about the 15. His D held them to a FG. Another score was a pick 6.

So.... His defense only allowed 17 pts and 3 of those were given by the turnover.

Your point doesn't work. If we get Shoop, we're automatically 25-40% better on D. It's like getting 3-4 five-star guys on D.

Unless Randy Shannon or Bo Pilini are interested, you couldn't really hope for a better hire at DC.

one TD was on a trick play want to stop those but it was not a drive down the field

What? He just fired a good DC in order to get a very good or excellent DC. I trust the guy to get it right....he's done great with his hires thus far, no?
