Vols #1 [Vols officially #1 in CFB Playoff ranking]

Cant believe where Heupel took this team considering where they were just 2 years ago.

I was thinking about what schools have been number one in the CFP rankings. Here is the list and the number of weeks:

Alabama 23
Clemson 8
LSU 3
Mississippi State 3
Ohio State 3
Georgia 2
Tennessee 1

I had forgotten that Miss St was number one. It seems crazy that more blue bloods have not held the top spot. No USC, no Michigan, no Texas, no Oklahoma.
Crazy to think...if we beat UGa this Saturday, then take care of business for the remainder of the regular season...we will have held the #1 spot in the CFP rankings longer than any team but Bama and Clemson.

Georgia is ranked number 1 right so if the playoff committee ranks Tennessee number 1 Kirby will have that team pissed off and highly motivated. If Tennessee is ranked 3rd or 4th coach Hype will have Tennessee highly motivated and pissed off. In life and sports motivation goes a long way. So no it isn't stupid. The only people that think about if we take a loss are people like you
I played and I can think of several reasons
1) The players earned it 2) recruiting 3) NIL money 4) Makes all (maybe not you) Tennessee fans proud 5) were relevant again) 6) if we slip up it gives us a better chance to still make playoffs 7) to see the look on our Coaches face 8) to see the look on a bamers face 9) to see the look on a nega vols face 10) most of all to see the look on our players faces....if you think one minute they want be motivated to play Ga. then I'm doubting you played the game.

I hate them putting a target on our backs, and just before we provoke the junkyard bulldogs.

And for reference, these are the top 10 programs in wins:

1. Michigan 984
2. Ohio State 950
3. Alabama 949
4. Notre Dame 934
5. Oklahoma 933
6. Texas 933
7. Penn State 915
8. Nebraska 911
9. Tennessee 864
10. USC 863

So three out of ten have held the top spot in the CFP era.
Florida???

I think you are looking at this wrong. Even if we lose Saturday, so what? Who would have thought in August we would have not only 1, but maybe 2 heisman contenders, beat UF and Bama, undefeated in November, and be ranked #1 in the CFP poll? This is the very definition of house money.

Worst case scenario at this juncture is a 1-loss regular season, still a path to the playoffs or a NY day bowl. Enjoy it! It is still guaranteed we are number 1 in the country for the next few days at least, enjoy it while you can.

Doesn’t matter because we are still gonna win Saturday and drink dawg tears Sunday morning!

May the orange be with us.

Vol Calls should be great tonight with Bob mentioning that Tennessee is ranked #1:cool:

Right On!

1st Bama #3/1, now Georgia #1/3. Do I see a recurring pattern here? Another big day for #5 to #11?

Now if we can handle success and all of the hype, go out and win this week and win out, this will be truly earned.
Huepel and staff will have them ready....The one thing I normally worry about in these situations is a team that has not experienced success and can they handle it once they get it.

Huepel and staff have shown that they can get the team up for games, and keep the intensity and not have a "hangover game" so far. They also have shown that they can keep the focus with the team for a trap game as well.

This is no different...Staff will have this team ready to go out and prove we deserve that ranking. Does that mean we win? No...it does mean the team will be ready.

As one of the reporters stated last night, this game is more important (regarding the playoffs) to UGA than us. Our SOS will keep us in the mix even with a close loss on Saturday. This is UGA's only shot (except for the first game of the season which is not fresh on everyone's minds now) to prove they belong. And if they lose, Will be a difficult climb back in top 4.

no matter what happens from here (a loss to Georgia, etc), this has been an incredible year and rebuilding journey. Enjoy the ride vol fans..... regardless of the final outcome of the season this year, it has been a surreal one with even greater things to come

Welcome back TN football

Not so fast!

You do realize Georgia has the #2 offense, right? Yes, after #1 Vols.

But they also have the #4 defense, where the Vols are around #85. Yikes!
Your defense is last for sacks in the SEC and 117th in the country with 10 sacks. Nolan has 3 out of the 10 but isn't playing. You all have to get to Hooker to win this game which I don't see with our OL road graders.

Cool Stat :

Per Tony Basilio, Tennessee is the only athletic department in the NCAA to have been ranked #1 in football, men's basketball and baseball within the last 4 years.
