In the 60s and 70s the people on the west side of Neyland wore coats and ties and the ladies wore dresses and sported a chrysanthemum that you could buy outside the game. The west siders clapped approvingly after big plays and we’re not loud and boisterous. The rest of the stadium were more casual and louder. The students were loudest of all. I was a kid and we sat in the dry on the west side. I was always looking forward to the day I could “graduate” to the student section as it actually looked like fun. The west side was like going to church. That slowly changed by the 80s as people got more relaxed about dress codes in general, so went Neyland. Unless you are a frat boy at Auburn.
