You could make that happen. I am still waiting on you to take your opinion like a man and tell Larry he is wrong. Maybe you can even use the insults you used when arguing with me!

But, but... we have no effect on recruiting! It's only a message board!

Larry, give us a name of a recruit that didn't come to Tennessee, or a coach that was fired over Message Board Chatter

Before you read this please know it is not directed at you. There are certain recruiting "insiders" that could learn a lot from Larry. Most notably, they could learn to post with a little more discernment. One of the reasons Hubbs is so respected is that he doesn't guarantee recruits. He has done it for long enough. I've read enough from Larry to know he doesn't make promises either.

People can preach about their credentials and make all the promises in the world. They just need to be willing to accept the consequences.

Now..in regards to recruiting and message boards. The internet isn't going to change. More particularly, message boards aren't going to change.

If these boards are used in recruiting (as you contend) there is nothing you can do to convince me that it plays a major role. If a kid makes a decision, even in part, based on what he reads on a board then I doubt they are college material to begin with.

He already answered that but since you only read the first line of his post I will paste the answer below.

LWSVOL,

I had not seen much of an impact but it was one factor yesterday, the perception of only one more year for the head coach being oen reason a couple guys flipped.

Spot on.

It doesn't take a lot of negativity before it starts to get in the head of a teenager and make them begin to question things. All the negativity that takes place here is enough to influence some, heck it's enough of it here for a fan to question the fanbase.

100% correct

Sumlin: had buzz and promises of less competition advantage A&M

Mullen: is rumored on the internet to be in play for every job in the country.

Muschamp: has to be taking heat on his boards as well

I don't see where the internet gives anybody a real advantage with any of those JUCOs.

people are reacing because they can't admit how awful our program has been. The sad fact is that our season is over, the last time we were seen on a football field we were getting our teeth kicked in by a terrible team and nobody is happy about it.

Good post. I agree with darn near everything you said. There is nothing we can do and this message board thing isn't going to change but I do disagree that a kid that is swayed by negative talk is some how not worthy. I don't think being impressionable is a sign that a kid will fail in college. Now I think kids that sway away from a school because a coach showed them message board material is very rare but then again we have kids making choices based on what number they are going to wear.

Agreed. I might add that they are having a hard time envisioning how UT is going to run the football in 2012.

The only way our last impression could have been worse is if Dooley had crapped his orange pants and started crying on the sideline at the end of the Kentucky game as Dave Hart yelled at him on camera..

I think people are reacting more over the streak ending than the score, the younger fans are more upset than the older fans, for some it was the 1st time it has happened to them. Perhaps it will help the fanbase to stop taking certain teams for granted. It was not my first time watching KY beat TN and it won't be the last.

I have stated that I don't think these guys based their decision off the topic especially O Jacobs. I think Larry has over reacted with these guys but I do feel that a small few of our current guys could be effected.

I don't remember the exact quote, but sounds like the answer to that question is 'Damien Jacobs'. On facebook, or tweeting, he said something to the effect of "Them people are bad-mouthing me and they don't even know me. I will see them on the third week of September."

Let me tell you something...if that kid can't handle some of us bad-mouthing him on here, just wait until that psycho Muschump is up in his face screaming at full volume with them eyeballs bulging out of his brains. Those type peoples are called 'Rabbit Ears'...they hearing too much. With age, you develop thick skin. Or as Jack White said, "Cut like a Buffalo".

Maybe...but I'm much less concerned with a streak that realistically should have ended a few years ago, and more concerned with how terrible that UK team was. Using inept to describe that team is being kind.

Nobody is really talking about this, but playing on the road is just another in the long list of issues that need to be addressed before 2012. Brainfart city, IMO.

Before message boards, people said the same thing about talk radio. Before that it was newspapers.

He likely sharted when Hart made the proclamation that youth is no longer an excuse for this bunch.

Autry spooked everybody. No doubt about it.

This is a fact, I think it especially affects those who weren't even alive the last time we lost to the Kats or around when we went 0-6 and struggled to even score to start the season in 88', which seems to be a large portion of the board.

I think the lack of having senior leadership hurt us on the road, for most players it was their first time playing away from Neyland and without having that leadership on the field it hurt this team, not to mention the injuries.

I have to remind myself all the time that I'm old by VN standards. You literally have to be in your late 30s to have a recollection of anything remotely as bad as what we've experienced the past couple of years.
