How about no negativity until signing day? We have nothing to bi## about until signing day. We won't lose any games between now then so it shouldn't be hard. If the class improves we will see if there is a correlation.
don't get too hung up on message boards per se..
the issue is fan unrest and the perception if a coaching staff has 1 year left or more. Fan unrest is measured by many methods with message boards just being one way.
media reports / articles about fan unrest, lack of ticket sales and criticisms of program are also ways to measure fan unrest.
call in radio or TV shows can also be used to mesasure fan unrest...
the # 1 item about particular schools that is most successful in getting recruits to sign is the realtionship they build with the coaches recruiting them. So if a general perception is that a staff could be gone after the next year, that is fair game to be pointed out by opposing coaches who are recruiting the same players.
Using those reasons in recruiting has been going on for decades, long before message boards were ever invented. It has always been successful just as negative commercials in politics is successful. when recruits hear it enough times from enough different coaches, it sinks in and influences the recruits.
Not a big deal. just part fo the landscape. If it doesn't matter to fans and they perfer to voice their opinions no matter potential impact, more power to them. Doesn't hold back reporters or talk show hosts either with criticisms
I think it is foolish to just dismiss the idea that fans wanting a coach replaced has no impact on recruiting. just recognize it could possible slow down a turnaround in a program and accept it. no reason to be defensive about it.
it was used after 2005. it is being used right now. until yesterday, I had not seen much of an impact but it was one factor yesterday, the perception of only one more year for the head coach being oen reason a couple guys flipped. be interesting to see how the rest of recruiting plays out.

So we are to believe Negavols on VN and other message boards are major contributing factors in not getting D-Jacobs, O-Jacobs and Autry? Really - is that what you are saying LWS? Well aren't we powerful. I may use this info to start my own blog and get some sponsors and make some money.
Oh, that's right - ESPN's blogs/writers did the heavy lifting by saying CDD is the #1 coach on the hot seat. Well - so much for that money making idea. Are you saying they would not have noticed had all the Negavols being good and pretended all was well on Rocky Top. How are we going to do that when we get blown out by 30+ to the main competition and lose to UK? Somebody is probably going to speak out by accident and say, "Excuse me, sirs, but our football team and coaches aren't very good are they?"
Or the recruit and his family actually attended some of those catastrophes and watched others on national TV and said, "Nah, rebuilding. I'll go to the one that is going to a bowl that is reloading."
Aww, it's love. Perhaps some of those posters had better things to do today than to sit around and smooch on LWS' posterior. So much for your last post in this thread. That's unfortunate. One thing I have discovered about this board is that a very select few respected posters can silence a thread like its 4am. Posters that are so willing to argue their points and ridicule others that disagree suddenly vanish in thin air. If your stance isn't worth being a man about and keeping, no matter the poster it isn't worth having. Larry thanks for bringing to this thread a credibility that sent those loud voices of ridicule hiding for cover like a flock of cowards.

But, but... we have no effect on recruiting! It's only a message board!don't get too hung up on message boards per se..

Sad but true. Sometimes it is so obvious what is going on. This is a great site , but it's just too easy for outsiders to take advantage of. Some stuff needs to be said. After the Kentucky game , I questioned this staff and the future of this program. But the last thing we need is another change for 2012. That seems to be the agenda. Think about it. A change right now would kill this program and we all know it's not happening right now. But if it did , it's a way to keep us down. It's the right time if you are a fan of another school. I'm not saying give Dooley forever , but for the love of God , considering what he walked into , 2 years is NOT enough. Next season will be the year to make that decision. The rumors that are "right on time" hurt this team without a doubt. The only thing that would backfire on our enemies if something went down is the perfect hire. They and most of us have no faith in that happening. Who were we going to get after the last 4 years of hell? Dooley may dig himself out of this hole , but 2 years is not enough time to prove anything. Not with what he walked into. He could turn it all around and make this work , but if he doesn't this will look like a much better job with the depth we are building.
I am not a member of any rival websites. I look around sometimes , but I don't see this amount of negativity anywhere. Unless it's after a loss and for the most part , it's cleaned up and the mood changes after a day or so. I know alot of teams aren't dealing with the issues we are , but the drama here is just insane. If they are keeping the "trolls" for hits , that is really sad. I am not telling the people who run this place what to do , but if it keeps going this way the word VOL doesn't belong. Just change it to Nation. I get so sick of Florida fans telling us how bad they have it , but at least they let it be known who they are. Same with Bama fans. Though they don't complain lately. Winning will help that of course. But it's the people who signed up in , let's say November of this year and all they do is post the same **** in a different way in every single thread they can find. You know who you are. It actually makes you respect the few who you know are Vol fans , that are consistent with their views , not newbies with a hidden agenda. And I'm not saying there aren't some doing the same stuff that have been here for years. There are too many here not to have more than a few. Thing is I'm not sure anything will ever be done about it , but I agree with the op. No disrespect to anyone , this is jmo.
Not in and of themselves, but they do play a factor. Media can feed off message board rumors and vice-versa. The more repeated a rumor is, the more likely people believe it. Same thing can be said for people spouting end of the world BS on message boards. The more times it gets repeated, the more believable it becomes, the more the media picks up on it, ad infinitum.i read larry's post, and the first line in it said, don't get hung up on message boards
