The only thing that I think will stop him from coming back immediately is the hard 34 player roster limit; he was already frustrated by NIL/portal in the year or two before he left, and I still remember him complaining about the hard roster limit on Basilio's show last summer.

If he’s fired from the Giants, he may not have the option of coaching anywhere but college.

I think UT baseball can maintain success. Can Elander return to the top, that’s yet to be seen. He helped build this team, but you can hear his frustration in interviews. I’m sure they’re doing all the can. How a guy like Tony ends up with a beta team, is a head scratcher. Not saying they can’t improve, but eventually you are who you are.

No doubt. Having to tell guys like Bargo and Sharm that there isn’t room, didn’t sit well with Tony.

Currently the head coach. The hitting coach (I think?). The 3rd base coach.

Not good.

Elander is playing with the same squad Tony would have had here. Our hitters just aren't hitting. Levi Clark can't even reach the Mendoza line. Everyone seems to be struggling at the plate. Would it really be different if Tony were here, and Elander still hitting coach? Not convinced it would be. This season will be what it will be. We have the players we have. IMO, the real test for Elander will be who he goes out and gets for next season to try and turn this all around. Tony had a lot of these guys, if not all, in the boat before he left for the Giants. This offseason will be our first chance to see what Elander can do to right the ship.

I think things would be different if Vitello were here. A lot of this game is mental. Being self assured and confident is a big thing in this sport. Vitello exudes that. His attitude and persona spread thru the team. I've said it over and over...a team reflects the coach. Elander was the popular choice. He was the easy choice. Question is....was he the right choice. I pray he is, but right now, I just don't see it.

lol, when did we ever win a game under Vitello based on game management? We won because we bashed crap tons of homers and struck teams out 15x a game.

Agree but that’s for those thinking these hitting issues are simply coaching related. They’re recruiting related. A player can either hit college or professional pitching or they can’t. A coach can help or tweet if a hitter is in a slump or doing something wrong but it takes time & a lot of reps to make major change if you can, something you don’t have mid season.

As I said in another thread, the swagger Tennessee baseball for several years a left town with Tony Vitello. Pretty obvious IMO.
