Tony is NOT your typical coach. To say he’s unique would be the understatement of the year. He’s approachable and genuine, but he also doesn’t care for corporate level BS, and Danny is all about that. Tony goes rogue, a lot. He doesn’t filter his interviews or access through the UTAD. Danny doesn’t like it. Tony doesn’t give a rip. There’s real tension.

The Giants interest in Tony has nothing to do with this, but Tony’s reciprocation is definitely affected by it. Is is 5% or 50%? No idea, but it’s there. Just the fact that it’s this far is an indication that it’s opened his interest to the idea.

Tony is a brilliant guy. There’s a reason he’s never flirted or entertained the MLB path. He knows his skills and what an advantage they are at this level. He’s a relentless recruiter. There is no area in MLB where that translates. He controls his roster and every facet. He’s know that won’t happen. Sure, maybe he likes a challenge. The Giants aren’t the Marlins or the Diamondbacks after all.

He does that with EVERY AD. Always has. I don't believe it. I think he has a pretty good relationship with the folks in the AD at Tennessee. I doubt Tony would go on his show otherwise.

The problem is baseball is not a high producing revenue sport. Danny wants to win but make no bones about it he is all about the all mighty dollar. Even as good as our baseball team has been in the last few years we are still in the red most of the time

Not a high producing revenue sport? It’s a negative revenue sport!

Fun fact: UT baseball was a negative 4 million dollars the year they won the natty. Let that sink in for a second.

Then negative 6 million won’t make that much of a difference! Pay. The. Man. If Adidas can fund the payout of Franklin at Penn State, then this is chump change!

And yet Tony V is on his show regularly, as well as is Chris Burke. I heard of tensions through two separate sources, who are definitely in the know and have nothing to do with Basillio.

What does that mean? Well, not much. Danny knows dayam well that if TV leaves and there’s any indication that things were off between them, he’s in trouble. Baseball may not be a revenue sport, but it drives some serious apparel sales and also a massive amount of positive media coverage. You could spend $10 million and still not get the positive press Tony and the baseball program generates. So, when people bring that up, they don’t get the big picture. It used to be that way with the Lady Vols. There isn’t a debate that baseball that it’s the most successful program on the hill. Period, and it’s not close.

TVs concern with NIL money is real and it’s been reported through multiple media folks now. Let’s stop pretending it’s not an issue. I think it’s an issue that gets resolved because I know some boosters who will pony up. I’d say Danny’s phone was blowing up from some big dogs.

Worth noting that baseball and Vitello are absolutely beloved by *multiple* heavy hitters that could have Danny shining their shoes if they so much as hinted they might cut a larger check. He'd be unwise to cross them.

Which makes me think there's something to the whole 'people above the Ath. Dept." stepping in narrative...its the typical upper middle manager corporate drama.

A super critical employee is thinking of leaving, some underling manager has a "fine, let him go" attitude... until the ones above him find out and freak out because they know how important the employee is.
