So, there’s recent and previous heat, and this was before Tony became a candidate. Even the guys on the Sport Source mentioned Tony’s frustration regarding NIL. I’ve heard from two unrelated sources that Tony and Danny have had words. This isn’t new. I’d heard stuff long before this situation came up. I even heard rumblings when Danny first got here about wanting to put his own person in. Now, that changed quick as Tony skyrocketed.
Tony is NOT your typical coach. To say he’s unique would be the understatement of the year. He’s approachable and genuine, but he also doesn’t care for corporate level BS, and Danny is all about that. Tony goes rogue, a lot. He doesn’t filter his interviews or access through the UTAD. Danny doesn’t like it. Tony doesn’t give a rip. There’s real tension.
The Giants interest in Tony has nothing to do with this, but Tony’s reciprocation is definitely affected by it. Is is 5% or 50%? No idea, but it’s there. Just the fact that it’s this far is an indication that it’s opened his interest to the idea.
Tony is a brilliant guy. There’s a reason he’s never flirted or entertained the MLB path. He knows his skills and what an advantage they are at this level. He’s a relentless recruiter. There is no area in MLB where that translates. He controls his roster and every facet. He’s know that won’t happen. Sure, maybe he likes a challenge. The Giants aren’t the Marlins or the Diamondbacks after all.
