Visitor's section at William-Brice

I'm originally from Tennessee but moved to sc when I was fairly young. Went to Byrnes hs. I've been to Williams Brice many times for state championship gms & to many UT/USCjr gms. I think the stadium loses some of the appeal & atmosphere just for not being on campus. Just my opinion. Columbia itself is kind of a dump & the area around the stadium shows it. Sure they have tried to build it up with the condos & the cockabooses but when u have a raggedy fair ground next to it & places that look like scrap yards it takes away from it. The stadium itself isn't that bad. The far endzone is nice. It has escalators & nice bathrooms. The upper & lower corridors on either side are just average. The scoreboard & jumbotron aren't that great. It has some ok tailgating spots. Besides the fairground u have the farmers market & the armory. If u get a little further back that's the part that looks like scrap yards & people tailgate around rusty abandoned storage containers & junk. FYI Carolina fans can be huge douchers like any of the rest.

usc is having trouble selling tickets---there should be tons of good seats at the UT game.

The stadium isn't that bad. The tailgating is awesome. There's the fairgrounds and there's alot of vacant lots that are great for setting up and throwing down. BEWARE of undercover cops!

UF fan here - went to Columbia a couple years ago. When I went my wife and I were about 15 rows up in the lower level in the corner of the "closed in" end zone. I couldn't tell how far up the UF section went, but they went all the way to the first row.

Word of advice - do not take a cab to the stadium unless you plan on hanging out for a couple hours after the game. All traffic after a game goes away from the stadium so nothing can get in. We had to walk in about 30 degrees to downtown where we finally found an IHOP and called a cab. Great game, sucky walk. We weren't the only ones either, there were probably 100 or so others making there way back to town on foot.

It is pretty rough getting out of there after a game. Last time I was there we parked at a minor league baseball stadium, can't remeber the name of it though. About a 15-20 minute walk but it was decently easy to get out of there from that location if you turned off the main road before it got to downtown.

Very true. Of the large stadiums in the SEC, it's probably the easiest to get to and from even if there's traffic. Also, the upside to having the stadium out in the middle of the fairgrounds is that even if you have to park a long way away, it's easy to walk around because it's so flat.

That dump is considered a large stadium? I thought it was only a few steps above vandy's ?

The UT/USC game I went for was at capacity. Don't know why people are saying they have trouble filling the place for UT

Park on Bluff Rd. It's an easy get away and just a few minutes off I77.

Have you ever been there? It holds about 80-85,000 and is actually a pretty good stadium and is pretty comparable to Auburn or Uga.

how much is the parking in the fairgrounds now? Someone told me they jacked it way up for opposing fans.

U have to have a pass there is no pay admission there. They have also paved that area where it's more like a parking lot instead of a dirt field. The armory & farmers market sell season passes as well.

See what I'm talking about with the view of the back of the endzone?

Yep, and it happened at least once during that game. We just had to wait on the reaction of the crowd. Amazing that they built it that way.

Below is a generalized chart for our visitor seating for an expected full house. When we play OOC teams these seats are grabbed up by the general public or just left empty (in today's economy).

Usually games like UTjr, UGA, BAMA, UF, Clemson fill these sections pretty well.

The only lower level seating is in the closed corner of our stadium opposite of the pressbox. There is less seating for teams like yours that bring the full band to The Cockpit as they will occupy the "wedge" in the exact corner.

Honestly, I would much rather be towards the bottom of the upperdeck than in that corner. I think visitor cut-off is about 15-20 rows up in the upperdeck and the crowd is less insane. The left side of the lowerlevel corner is not angled enough so those in the first 1-5 rows can't see over the benches. Those in the wedge and a bit to the right are angled a little better. To the left (looking at the picture) is our student section and to the right is our season ticket folks.

As mentioned above, the spirals are a great place to watch the game if you get there early enough to get a place to lean but you have to be okay with standing the entire time. I have only done it once.

Parking in the fairgrounds is now permit only. You can find parking just about anywhere around the stadium if you arrive in time. A block away from the stadium will cost you about $30 and it only goes down to about $20 once you start heading out of the area. Anywhere on Bluff road is your best bet. If you head towards town there is limited parking in an old mill area called Olympia and in the other direction are various industrial businesses and truck companies (the junk yards mentioned above) that are always open for parking.

The fairgrounds, around the stadium, the Farmers Market, the Armory and the various townhomes in the area will not be available.

Enjoy your trip and get drunk!

How do you get a "permit" to park in the fairgrounds?

The fairgrounds are split into 3 sections. The first part is Gamecock Club only. They give tons of money to have access to those spots and then pay even more money just to park in them. The second section is assigned permit only. These spots are renewable to those that already have one in March and then open to anyone else (if there are some left over) in June. These typically all disappear since they are numbered spots and you are guaranteed that spot if you show up 5 hours before kickoff or 5 minutes.

Then there is the general admission parking. You need a permit to get in to show that you have paid but you do not have an assigned spot. You're guaranteed a spot, you just never know where its going to be. The back 2 sections are sold through the SC State Fair and the front section is secured through USC/Gamecock Club.

I doubt you are looking for a season permit and that is all that they sell.
