Vindication

I'm sorry, but when they showed that shot of Clawson in the booth it looked as if he were shell-shocked. He has NO idea what he has gotten himself into. These next two weeks will probably be the worst two of his career. He has never had to deal with the criticism that is about to fall upon him...let's see how he deals.

If I didn't know any better I'd think this is a thread from 2007, post Cal game.

All the statements made tonight by us and Phil almost mirror this time last year.

I respectfully disagree. There is absolutely no reason for a loss tonight and I think that is why people are freaking out. Last year was a different story.

Just same old crap that got us beat last year. No adjustments by chavis. Offense not using their strenght enough. All points to the coaching staff. Lets face it this team doesn't have the talent we've had in the past. But the coaches have to help them out a little. Were not blessed with USC or Florida talent. We can't just show up anymore and expect to win.

Overrated has always been a suckup piece of thrash. However, our fan base thinks his motor never stops running.

Well you know, I could at least respect him if he would just answer a caller by saying, "You know what, we just sucked ass tonight." I could respect him then, at least.

Talent wise, I don't think we're THAT far behind. It's just not utilized properly. Imagine what we might have done tonight had Norm Chow been in our press box.

Every year I get suckered in by pre-season hype. Living here, I really look forward to the fall. Now???? when's BB season start again?

We're so far behind USC, Oklahoma, Florida, Ohio State , et al in talent it's not funny.

we throw 42 times and where is gerald jones and lucas taylor in the second half. Where is brandon warren period. we have some serious talent but serious lack of execution and no sense of the kill. we could have knocked them out of the game and then foster fumbles for about the 5th time inside the 5 in his career. we looked bad all the way around except for the run d which was excellent by the way. clawson gets about a d+, chavis gets a d cuz of the 2nd half, fulmer gets a d for his part in this. i thought the players played good but the coaching let us down in this one.

What hurts the most is that I know that everyone around the nation are laughing at us right now.

My neighbors from Auburn and UGA were laughing at us at halftime. And we were leading then. Can't wait to hear what they say tomorrow.

Hat is dead on. The truth hurts. Another way of looking at it: how many other SEC teams would have lost to UCLA tonight? Vandy? Mississippi State? Maybe Arkansas? Maybe Ole Miss? Let's face the cold, hard facts: UT is maybe the 8th or 9th best team in the SEC at this point. And that should be absolutely unacceptable to any self-respecting orange-bleeding Vol fan.

I'll wait a lil longer into the season until I claim that the sky is falling.

Tonight was all on the player's. The coaches aren't the one who let the DL penetrate the pocket. The coaches aren't the ones who were passing the ball inaccurately. The coaches aren't the ones who missed 3 field goals. The coaches aren't the ones who notched at least 9 penalties. The coaches aren't the ones who fumbled in UCLA's redzone.

This team isn't full of boys, so stop babying them and blaming the coaches. These weren't little inexperienced freshmen being thrown to the wolves. Practically the entire offense returned from last year's group, and the DEF really only has inexperience at SLB and LE. The reason people are freaking is because the game should have been UT's, and the players (along with some shady PAC 10 officiating, not to be cliche and blame the refs) gave the game away. I think most Vol fans thought this game was won before kickoff, and were anticipation the "SEC Speed" remarks during the SportsCenter highlights. And when the team loses, then we'll need a miracle to make a bowl game!

Think about how many points were kept off and put on the board due to player error. Lincoln's missed FG's. Foster's fumble in the redzone. Cunningham and blockers allowing a punt block for a TD. Plus, all the penalties on experienced players. I'm not saying the coaching staff shouldn't receive any blame. They do, but the players deserve more.

Yeah, it sucks during the short term. But I think it's good in the long term. The team flops on national television, and will now have to deal with the bitter aftertaste for two weeks. They'll be motivated to fix their flaws, and I expect them to shalack UAB. UCLA overachieved tonight, and that was expected as they're at home and are breaking in their hyped up coaching staff. It wasn't a blow out. We all agree that we played terrible in the 2nd half, UCLA played a near perfect half, and the game still went into OT. If you expect to win by at least 3 TD's in games like this, then you're just setting yourself up for disappointment.

Outcoached, outplayed and beatin by a bad team.

You can talk about coaches, skill levels, attitudes, abilities, lack of awareness or just the fact that the ability to take risk,to go for the juggler has been long lost. were to assign the blame is a blame game. The fact remains the ability or the skill or the attitude or the willingness to take the risk are lost and need to be regained.

Well, according to many around here, the Vols were a good team heading into this game. So a bad team beat a good team, which means they're still a bad team and that good team is now bad also.

Or could it be that the team was better than expected, and the homers got knocked off their pedastal?

The coaches did enough to win the game. Had the players executed, then there would be no complaints aside for those who still want the coach fired for not winning by enough.

Really?

Our coaches didn't do a damn thing to win the game. Our game plan wasn't good, and when it didn't go well, we didn't make any adjustments. Our D played well until the game was on the line, and then as usual we backed off, played soft, and let the other team march down to score. You really think execution was the only problem?

1. If you kick field goals from farther than 50 yards, you shouldn't expect to make all of them.

2. Arian Foster has been in Knoxville five years. Someone should have taught him how to carry the ball.

3. Crompton and the OL have all been with the program a long time. They should have mastered the basics by now.

4. Our special teams have been awful for longer than I can remember. Our coaching staff should know better than to use a spread punt formation.

5. When your QB is struggling to complete 40% of his passes a smart coach might consider asking him to pass the ball less than 40 times, especially when your running backs are getting 7 yards everytime you hand them the ball.

Its sickening kpt. I can't sleep and i won't very well. I'am tired of sucking man. I can't take too much more. If those boosters can't open their blind f----- eyes and see were headed for disaster. I may just have to stop caring about as much as they do.

You are dead on...
Hardesty looked great and then when Foster coughed up the ball on the goaline like it was 2006, Clawson **** his pants and started throwing every down.

And that UCLA drive at the end of the game... how many times did they throw 5 yds. over the middle? It reminded me of 2001 SEC championship when Mauck beat us with the same 4 plays. This time it only took a 3rd stringer one play. I cannot believe I waited 9 months for this and all the energy I wasted.

But Fulmer deserves recognition , right?
