Speaking of the tutoring that is afforded to the athletes, We were staying in North Carolina a couple of years ago when the Florida State girls team was in town to play North Carolina and we happened to be staying at the same hotel. I went down stairs to print off some work papers and they were tutoring some of the FSU girls in the same room. No offense to all athletes, but these were the dumbest people I've ever heard. I had to sit there for a bit to believe what I was hearing. It was like they were being tutored 4th grade material. It makes me understand how when you are an athlete, you get pushed through high school even though you probably should not be graduating. So I don't find it surprising that some of these athletes don't make it at a college level. Hopefully, Perry and Henderson will get where they need to be in order to make the team.

I agree with this. If Butch said that "DT Shy Tuttle won't be full speed until late July." that means that they expect him ready for the start of fall practice and a redshirt is not currently under consideration and I think there would have to be a major setback for that to change. I also disagree with those who say that he has to be at 100% to play. Tuttle is not sticking around here 5 years, as soon as he can contribute, we need him out there.

Still pissed Tuttle got hurt all because of one dirty UGA player who was getting embarrassed by Tuttle all game long.

I hope Vincent Perry can get his academics straightened out. We are loaded at WR but he was supposed to be a factor before getting injured going into his freshman season.

I don't think we'll miss Henderson because like I said we're loaded at WR.

Tuttle we need to have fully recovered for the beginning of the season. We need him pretty bad. Both he & McKenzie together are going to be forces to be seriously dealt with this coming season.

It's been a tough road for Perry after redshirting last year with a knee injury suffered before the season. I hope he gets his academics straightened out.

As for Tuttle, last month Butch put his timetable for return as late June to early July, so this does seem like slight delay for him, but that may have origainlly been optimistic and just a guess by Butch.

In addition to Perry, it looks like Tennessee will be missing another wide receiver. It appears Corey Henderson, a 3-star receiver from the 2016 class, is heading to JuCo.

How does a recruit that doesn't qualify academically impact the scholarship situation for future years?

Does the school absorb the hit? Certainly we would have used Henderson's scholarship elsewhere if we knew he wouldn't qualify right?

To be fair, the players have a heavier work load than a lot of students. I was an exceptional student in high school and took all the right classes and everything. I had to work while is school, part time at first and then later I was working full time and full time school. The grades do and can take a hit if a person, even an intelligent person, takes on more than they can handle. And no level of tutoring can overcome the lack of time to study and complete assignments.

From my college days, the most important thing I learned was how to effectively manage my time by making smart choices around what to concentrate on - it was either that or no sleep.

I don't want to be that player this year . It might be bad for him . I don't think we would go that low but I expect some pain in his future ?

Tuttle's full recovery taking longer is not a surprise. His leg has to hold up more weight than the average player. I look for Paul Bain to step up, and give Shy plenty of time to be 100%.

Not necessarily. If he has some undetected problems with reading or learning, that won't really help. Or he might just need his vision checked.

GFW says he is good though. So, I will take his word on that.

Once the LOI is signed, it counts against the 25 count for the year. But if he's not enrolled, then he doesn't count toward the 85 total limit. So, we couldn't back-count his spot next class. But we'll have to see some attrition to take a full class next year and still come in under the 85. Hope this helps.

Loaded? How many catches did our returning receivers have last year? We need Perry to be there.

Sounds like you really wanted that degree and were willing to do whatever was needed - I salute you! :good!:

But, did you only take 12 hours each semester like many(not all) of the football athletes? What major did you pursue? There are some pretty easy ones if you look for them. Did you have the team of tutors and guidance available to the athletes - its really amazing if you've not seen it. IMO, an athlete has to try to not remain academically eligible unless there's some type of serious learning disorder.

Vincent seems to be trending toward the 2-star git-shirt category pretty quickly. Butch is terrific at roster management so with this kid's injury history he can be eased onto a medical scholarship or just dropped from the roster due to grades. There was a Knoxville area small WR type last year that wandered off the roster really fast - cannot recall name. Tyler Byrd and Williams are the real deal so why waste time with marginal kids who will not do their school work and cannot stay healthy enough to suit up?

I wouldn't be surprised if Tuttle is a month or two behind scheduled recovery, after all he did have a pretty severe leg fracture in October 2015

I don't see Tuttle as an impact player this year. Will take him two years to fully recover. See limited snaps for him. I could see ten snaps a game.
