I'll never forget Derek Dooley getting fired and a week later fox had him on their recruiting show and asked him what he thought about von bell and he literally said "who is von bell?". I'm thinking you complete and utter moron!! He is literally the best safety prospect in high school football and he's in your back yard and you don't know who he is!? Lololol and he said him and counzo were forced out šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ you ****ing idiot. Screw you Dooley, I hope we wipe the floor with offense come Saturday.
He pretty much refused to recruit. Member that one class with ZERO O-Linemen lol

We learned real quick that Derek wasn't his daddy. For all of Butch's flaws he was at least likeable for a while. I wanted Derek to succeed but I'll be damned if he didn't rub me the wrong way from the start. Hopefully Pruitt will eat his lunch Saturday

I’d rather hang out with Dooley for one day than I ever would with Butch.

Vince is correct that the timing wasn't good for Derek. Also, the timing could have been perfect, and he still would have been bad.

Dooley could inherit a national title-winning team and go 9-3/8-4, and then as a few years went by and it became "his team" they'd be below .500. Anybody see the interview he did with Clay Travis? They discussed the hiring process in some detail, and his overall reaction to being offered the Tennessee job I think can best be summed up as surprise and bemusement. Seemed to find it almost humorous. He was just entirely ill-equipped to handle it.

Dooley played at Auburn (1951-53) and was an assistant coach for the Tigers (1956-63) before taking the head coaching job at his alma mater’s rival school.

Pruitt played at Alabama (1995-96) before being an assistant coach for the Crimson Tide (1997, 2007-12, 2016-17) and then taking a head coaching job at a rival school.
Dooley said it was not hard to transition from one school to the other and does not think it was tough for Pruitt either.

ā€œIt’s awfully hard for fans to understand,ā€ Dooley said. ā€œWhile we love our alma mater, we are professionals and we have to take advantage of the opportunity in the profession.

ā€œSo once I came to Georgia, I had to commit myself to Georgia, just like Coach Pruitt had to commit himself to Tennessee – because that is your job. Even though you have great respect for where you were, you are now in charge of another program and you have to be totally into that program.ā€

Hopefully that will soothe some of yall that think Pruitt's heart isn't really here. Don't worry about where Pruitt came from cause he's All Vol now.

Exactly!

Pat Dye got his education from Georgia and played at Georgia as well and we all know where He ended up........................

Maybe it was a bad time and Dooley was a bad coach as well. The two don't have to be mutually exclusive. There is also the possibility that Dooley wasn't ready for the job and the pressure of running a high profile power 5 program with a history and a passionate fan base was too much for him. I'm not advocating for the guy, just saying that IMO there is more to a bad coaching tenure sometimes than a singular issue. Maybe he was a bad coach, but he and all other coaches have more to worry about than their abilities alone when running a program.

I'll say this. One thing is for sure. If we had waited until the end of last year before firing Dooley, we would be years ahead of where we are now! I'll take him over Butch Jones at about a hundred to one!
I am in no way a Butch supporter (glad he is gone) but Are you really being serious? Dooley wasted away arguably one of the most potent UT offenses ever in 2012 and turned them into a 5-7 football team. Lost to arguably one on the worst UK teams ever in 2011 ending the streak. He also alienated former UT players, fans, and wins. Opportunity is nowhere was spot on for that AZZHAT. Butch was ultimately a train wreck but he at least competed for the East in 2015 & 2016 and won bowl games.

It’s Tennessee’s fault he was coach here. We chose him; he didn’t force us to hire him. Therefore, I don’t understand the hate for DD. I hate we hired him, but don’t hate him personally.
"We" didnt do anything. Hires are on the AD..Who was running the show back then?..

Well his sharpness didn't recruit worth a S H I +....

He was a very incompetent HC...

Intelligence wasn't enough. So...

Thank Mike Hamilton for bringing in a 2nd tier coach with a losing record. He was bad & lived up to his record (or down). We got what we paid for. Can't remember his buyout s0 we may still be paying for it. I thought he was our worst HC- then Jones. He progressively got worse. Forget that damned trash can thing, running off good players. Has anyone noticed how Jalen Hurd is doing at Baylor? Last I looked, he ain"t doing bad. Anyway, I still wanna kick Dooley's butt Saturday. I have no ill-feeling toward MO, just their OC. I hope his Orange pants were confiscated when he left Knoxville! We were put in a tailspin taking decades to reverse....

I think Dooley is a decent guy and seems to be a good position coach and coordinator. Bad fit at UT at that time. Way too big of a spot for him

Omg! You don’t think the AD is all Tennessee? Lmao. Of course it’s on the AD, who was hired to make all decisions for, yes, Tennessee. Doesn’t matter who he was, AD is the AD.

respect for Papa Dooley !

one of my fears has been can Pruitt bleed orange as long as Dooley and Fulmer did but this helped somewhat.....Vince Dooley said. ā€œWhile we love our alma mater, we are professionals and we have to take advantage of the opportunity in the profession."

I still think Dooley threw the Mizzou game in 2012 because he knew he was going to be fired. Go back and watch the end of regulation. Weirdest thing I've seen as a Vols fan coaching wise. He deserved to be OC at Mizzou for a year solely based on that.
I remember the impossible score in OT. How do you score on 4th down and 9? That should never, ever, ever, ever...you get the point!!
