Thanks Fingers et al for the great videos!

Based on the new scrimmage videos posted later today, if I had to pick a guy that looked pretty good so far at QB, it would be Shrout. He did throw a pick, but so did the other guys. Here are just a few things I noticed:
- He has a controlled leadership presence about him.
- His play action fakes were much better than the rest. The other guys were just just going through the motions.
- He was pretty accurate with all his passes.
- He appears to be more dialed in to executing the offense than the others....

Details win or lose games. Shrout definitely won this category today. Not crowning anyone King just yet, just liked what I saw from him today.

I think I read that he threw several interceptions that did not make the videos. Interceptions have been his weakness even in HS.

Don't have a favorite! We need a guy that can get us downfield. In the off season, we might lose Jennings, Calloway & Johnson to the NFL
Can't waste their talent by not having a good q.b.to allow them to reach their potential and us to win a few games this season

Unless I happened to be looking at something else every time he did it, this is inaccurate.

Well then it’s decided

Given the proper time to develop and get comfortable with the plays I think Shrout become a starter next year or 2020. I can't see them burning a redshirt with 2 viable QB's and Mcbride as a backup unless he just ends up proving to be this vastly superior QB compared to JG and Chryst. I think he's going to be very very good, scary good even. He just needs time at the college level. I'd look to see if anyone transfers once the starter is named before I would think they put him at the helm.

I've read all of the impressions from media members and other posters that I trust/believe. I know that I'm not supposed to like what I see of Chryst. However, I don't see him trying to rifle it, he doesn't look like he cares to impress, he just wants to complete the pass and keep the play/drive moving. This is also the untrained eye-test of an armchair coach, so what the hell. Just an impression that I'm throwing out there while we wait for the season to get here.

Nope. It isn't Shrout.

The early advantage is to JG. One of the key things to watch is who goes with the 1's first and who gets the most reps with them. That fact accurately predicted QD the starter last year.

From everything I have read the 2 front runners are mediocre. Of the OL can get it together and pound the opposong DLs maybe we won't have to throw deep much.

I won’t go back on my prediction that Chryst will start game 1.

That said I do believe out of the 4 Shrout will be the one who has the most memorable moments

I'm in the minority, but I liked what I saw from 19.

You're not alone.
His reads are much more natural than JG. Chryst should throw a better ball than he does by the look of him. But JG has a much more live arm.

"I thought Guarantano made some really nice throws and was able to complete some difficult passes once receivers were getting covered by defensive backs, but Chryst also threaded the needle and made a few impressive throws of his own."
-- Nathanael Rutherford

Five standouts (IMO) from Tennessee's open practice: 1. CB Alontae Taylor 2. OLB Jonathan Kongbo 3. QB Jarrett Guarantano 4. TE Dominick Wood-Anderson 5. WR Cedric Tillman
Simonton

"... it was quite clear who the top quarterback on the field was Sunday. Jarrett Guarantano threw strikes in both pass-skeleton work, 7-on-7 and 11-on-11. Compared to a year ago, JG was much better with his footwork and decision-making. He didn’t hold onto the ball for forever and he routinely found his check-downs quickly. He had one really poor throw (was baited by Alontae Taylor) but he responded with a bomb on his very next attempt. That’s growth. He didn’t his head after a poor pass. He got right back in the huddle and made a play." -- Simonton

Didn't like how the two top guys waltzed through their play action fakes. Both guys looked a little flat-footed back there. Got to see how those guys perform after getting put on their butt a few times.

Hard to reconcile the limited, opinion soaked takes of simonton and rutherford-who have been glowing, if not erupting upon the glazed personage of guarantano and his arm talent- with the full, fact based, stat filled complete report of David ubben's.

Were these three guys in the same stadium?

My take is bias always exists even in(especially in) the media.
