Vandy becoming the real UT

Mason said We are going to a bowl, we are relevant.

That’s the difference. Vandy considers going bowling = being relevant.

At best Vandy is renting us rather than owning us.

It takes our worst matched to their best for them to win, what is it 5/7.

I wonder how long they can keep pace? Any drop off on their end, combine that with some improvement on our side and it will all be back to “normal”

I'm pissed that we're already in "Offseason Stupid Thread" mode and more than half of CFB still have a football game to play.

IF some Nashville big wigs decided to really invest in the athletic department, it could make things interesting. There is A LOT more money in the area than around Knoxville.

Vandy just beat Tennessee but they won't do it again for a couple of decades.

I see a lot of pain in the future of Vandy's football program.

Shanker Down!

I remember hearing that in 2012, 2013, 2016, 2017, and now this year.

Personally, if anything of relevance ever comes out of Vandy, I could see them having better success out of their basketball as opposed to football.

This post is really more appropriate for the thread earlier about the admn respecting the fans, but wasn't our ANNOUNCED attendance like 92,000 this year? That would be awesome for most schools. But it is continuing a downward trend, and that happened when we had Alabama and FL at home. I'm not one of these "I'll take my small donation and go home" guys, but I really do hope the administration figures out how to repair the relationship with its fanbase.

Why would they care enough about Vandy to give anything? Vanderbilt doesn't have an alumni base, those big wigs you speak of didn't go there. Very few of their graduates stay in Nashville. I would say the majority of people in Nashville with money to donate, are much more likely to be fans of Tennessee than Vanderbilt. That is Big Orange Country. That is a reality.

I tend to agree with you but as UT continues to struggle and programs like Vandy, MTSU, & Memphis are showing signs of relative success...even ETSU in Upper ET, then I can see "support" dollars following those teams vs. UT. Not a wholesale mass exodus but for the casual fan in one of these areas that used to support the Vols may decide to spend their Sat. on a local team.

But the die-hard UT fans will be there. The "fringe" fans are what UT is losing, IMO.

For now I think this is true, but the ultimate problem if you are a Tennessee fan is that Vanderbilt is an SEC program and is local to Nashville. If you want a future possibility, look up north. Northwestern is kinda similar in terms of their place in the Big Ten; only private institution in a conference of public ones. However, even though they don't have a massive local alumni base in Chicago, they've manage to eclipse Illinois in terms of success because if you are a local recruit up there in Chicago, NW is a better football program and offers you a better education to boot. It's a no brainer if you're trying to compete.

It's often said that what's past is prologue, and Vanderbilt was once the top program in the state because of their relative mass of money in the state capital compared with Knoxville and UT, which was booming by the early 1900s but couldn't touch the money or resources that the school out in Nashville had. No reason to think that can't happen again given Middle Tennessee's population boom relative to Knoxville's.

How did we do against them again?

Arbitrary ratings don't really mean much now do they? Reminds me of a phrase "Everybody has a plan until they get hit"
I think those ratings mean a lot... but coaching means just as much. Player development, attrition, stability and continuity within the staff and the overall culture and work ethic of the program... what really has to hit home with Tennessee fans, is that Vanderbilt is not any good and yet they have won 3 straight by an average of 18 points per game. Tennessee football is easily the most underachieving program in the NCAA right now.

Sad...but true.

With Vandy owning us the last few years, the new generation only knowing a UT team that loses to Vandy, and Vandy being in the heart of Nashville where almost everyone moving in is from another part of the country and holding no emotional ties to the past or clinging onto stories of the good old days......

Is there a chance that if things do not change in the next few years, that Vandy becomes the new UT and the Vols are left by the side of the road?

There is ONLY 1 UT! Just because Vandy has won 3 in a row doesn't change things. Look at the record of the series. If you can only remember the last 3 years, you aren't old enough to post here.

How about the last 7 years? They’ve won 5 of them.....little more relevant regarding the current respective states of each program than what happened in the 70s or 80s, wouldn’t you say? I can remember the last 44 or so years by the way, and at no point in that time period, outside of the last 7 years, could Vandy even dream of winning 2 in a row.

What did hear in 2014 and 2015?

Dude...we’re still waaaaaayyyy up in the all time wins and losses. They’ve beaten us 6 times since I’ve been born - 1983. Its an abberation until we can actually hire someone who’s competent enough to be head coach at UT. Look at the recruits we just had on campus - many of whom are considered UT leans. And this is after Vandy owned us. Vandy would kill just to be considered by some of those guys. As long as Pruitt can bring in stud recruits and develop them somewhat, we should get back to beating Vandy every year.

The subset of the eight Candy fans who inhabit the Candy board are making fun of this thread: Interesting thread on UT board - 14Powers.com

Which was probably the OP's intent in the first place. I'd never start a thread that invites the 4 silly Candy fans who comprise the silly Candy Board to heap ridicule on UT. And the trolls who do post that crap on this board are closet Candyites.
