There is a point where the additional money over UT's offer won't matter. It's happiness and stability that matters most. Go to the university where you get the best chances of having that. With Michigan's recent turmoil, the chances of a good environment are probably not too high.

I remember working for my first oil company in New Orleans. I liked the company and the environment a lot. Anyway, I got this wild hair to interview with another oil company on a Friday afternoon, just out of curiosity. To my surprise they offered me a job with a $10,000 raise in the interview. I accepted their offer the following Monday. BIG mistake. It took me about a week to see this. I hated the company and the environment.....very cut throat, I lasted there unhappily for 4 years. The extra money didn't matter to me anymore. I quit!

I spent the next 20 years working for an oil company that I enjoyed much more. The environment was much better and the job fun. They eventually gave me an expat position for 12 years, Something I always wanted. So a happy ending
