'26 VA RB Savion Hiter (Michigan commit)

People assuming, we get a big back next year. Hope we do. But a lot of people assumed we would get Hiter. And we didn't. You can't live on what you might get next cycle. Get what you can now. Worry about what you can get next cycle then. If Hiter decides to open up a dialog, you listen.

I think Bey will be a Swiss Army knife. He’ll officially be listed as a WR, but they’ll move him around. I’m thinking the way Florida used Percy Harvin.
Bey will be important at WR to hit big plays and consistently take the top off the defense, allowing our other receivers to have tons of room underneath to work.

Maybe shifting from empty to him as the 1 back and of course jet sweeps. Keep’em guessing.
Yes sir.

I think we saw that kind of philosophy in Atlanta on Saturday. Before it was making defenses tired with our tempo and then making them make bed decisions based off them being weary.

Now with the multiple formations- and shifting its overload. And the run principals stay the same for the most part. We did do some zone blocking vs pulling lineman, but all of the running was still downhill.

Coach Meyer would emphasize that when Harvin was in the backfield that he “was a RB” in that mode. And that’s the key to…keeping the formation aunthentic to its property. Basically you can’t think that every time Legend Bey is at RB that he will get the ball. He’s just playing RB at that time.
Honestly we showed enough variation and breadth on Saturday that the only we need is more involvement of the TEs in the passing game. And we ran the 12 personnel formation that should open that option up.

I think our TEs need 3 catches each per game. 9 receptions total at least.

Good stuff.

A) The bomb to Staley was out of 12 personnel. Last year, when we went 12, it didn't seem like we attacked downfield. That was a nice change.
B) I think we will throw more to the TEs in big games. We seemed to only throw to them in the red zone Saturday. We did try to throw to Davis near the goal line and it was batted down. But I think this offense has elements it hasn't shown yet.
C) It was fun watching the downhill running, especially late in the game. We were alternating between zone blocking and gap scheme from play to play at times. Every lineman on this Oline can pull...including Pendleton, who pulled and obliterated a defender on one Thomas run. Anyway, we had great seats and watching that line work in person was really fun.

I think this offense has more it didn't show and we have the QB now to really open it up.

DeSean Bishop was the #1322 player nationally, #91 RB out of high school
Star Thomas was the #505 player nationally, #44 RB out of high school
Dylan Sampson was the #393 player, #31 RB out of HS
Jaylen Wright was the #373 player, #26 RB out of HS.

I say all of this to say......none of us should be concerned about RB. Heupel's system gets the most out of RBs.

But that being said....if we ever do get 1-2 of these 5* RBs.....the world ain't ready.

A top flight back is important to big time winning. We were going after him that hard for a reason. I'm pretty sure we're going to go hard after another 5 star back next season too.

Imagine passing up an offense that has successfully ran the ball every year under the current coach to play for some regular that is a HC for some reason
