'26 VA RB Savion Hiter (Michigan commit)

If you’re someone who battles anxiety being an elite football recruit would be a nightmare scenario.

I saw videos of him crying with his family after the announcement. Seems like a good kid who just really hates the spotlight and the process of recruiting.

I’d much rather every recruit take his approach than the trolling and hat throwing we see from a lot of kids.
Yeah I agree. It seems odd but I’m probably just butthurt too. Looking forward to the season starting because I’m ready to see what we’ve got!

I think you're choosing to be willfully ignorant. A lot of players were shown the portal because they were caught up in the scandal. And because of the scandal, we weren't able to replenish that roster through the portal. We were operating at a significant roster deficiency which the NCAA could have justifiably counted as enough of a scholarship reduction as to not impose more. But they did. Along with other recruiting restrictions. FFS, we're still on scholarship restrictions as long as we're on probation. The FACT is, we received actual punishment. Michigan did NOT.
at least Beldar didnt get a penny from UT

We did something that is now legal. They did something that is still illegal. People will look at it how they choose to look at it. But what real punishment was the Michigan program hit with? I didn't see any recruiting restrictions or scholarship reductions. No postseason bans. They got to keep an ill-gotten NC they cheated to win. So what REAL punishment did they get? A fine that one of their billionaire boosters will write out a check for, while laughing his ass off at how ineffective the NCAA is? Michigan cheated and got a title for it. Paying a fine is just buying that title since it wasn't taken away.
Now you if they make them reduce their SHARING money by those amounts it might be fair.

Genuinely hopeful missing on Hiter means we focus on Georges in 2027 and hit the portal for a one year gap fill at the the end of the season.

I think Hiter is a great back. But there is something different about Georges. Maybe it's just the orange shades for a local kid.

I just feel like this is going to work out for us in the long run with the possibility of having the inside track to sign him in the '27 class.

I get that, but at the same time, why even have a ceremony then? Could easily just announce the commitment on social media or whatever and avoid the anxiety moment

Guys transferring out due to uncertainty is not a NCAA punishment. That was not a punishment, and it wasn’t enforced by the NCAA. It was an issue for Heupel starting out and something he had to overcome, a bad consequence of what went down, but to mention include it as part of the punishment handed out by the NCAA and imply that other teams should have scholarships reduced because we had guys walk on their own accord would make you a complete dumbàss.
28 scholarships over 5 years…..plus recruiting restrictions. Are you seriously saying our punishment wasn’t worse than Michigan’s?

Many didn't walk on their own. They were forced out due to involvement. While it wasn't specifically the NCAA that did it, it was part of our effort to self-police and part of the reason the penalties weren't worse. But by all means, keep digging.

If anyone cares about taking the next step, these are the type of recruitments & players you need to start winning out on.

Again, if you're content with going 8-4 to 10-2 every year with an occasional playoff berth then I can see why a lot of you defend every recruiting miss.

When you're in a holding pattern for 3-4 years with nothing improving while asking the fans to choke up more cash at every turn, don't be surprised when people complain.

The Adidas deal made a ton of sense on the surface, however if it doesn't result in better recruiting then the move from Nike is moot and unnecessary from a performance standpoint.

If you're good with school admin lining their pocket without substantial roster investment & improvement, then you'll sleep just fine at night.
If the last part is true then no coach can help. I don’t agree with you in general anyway but you can’t blame the coach if the admin isn’t investing. You’re just not satisfied and throwing stones in all directions.

We're all guilty of this. Nothing wrong with some wishful thinking. That's why I'm here. Balance.

From July 29th...
At the time I sent this, we were in a great spot. Not sure if it was all just a play for
Him to get more from Michigan and he was just playing us all along. But shortly after this everything shifted in early August.

AP yesterday

Actually for two weeks in July he went quiet on the Michigan staff. At that point he was coming here and then he reengaged Michigan.

This is all Stoener’s fault. It may not be a rational take, but somehow, it’s his.

I saw on a Michigan board someone said something to the effect of "this one almost got away but Tony Alford reeled him back in"

Just think that relationship was too much to overcome in the end. If Alford was still at OSU I believe Hiter would be there.

I’m saying that our punishment was not bad. 28 scholarships over 5 years is absolutely meaningless. It’s a few less career bench guys and walk ons being put on scholarship
Seems like all your takes are awful lately. Might want to reevaluate and take a breather. Those 28 scholarships could’ve been undervalued players that thrive.
