Liked the article, not getting the secret part, everybody knows he's the S&C coach. I guess it's a secret how good he is.

I really think performance on the field will be upgraded this year because of what Mckeefery has done with the players. Can't wait for Saturday.

Pretty good read. Hopefully the weight room numbers translate into sucess on the field.
Since there is no definitive way to link strength and power, off-field work with playing performance, all you can honestly do is hope.

Well, it certainly can't hurt. Some of that is pretty eye opening as far as how bad it has gotten.

I guess we have always been somewhat soft, at least under Fulmer. I remember the game against Nebraska so vivdly. Our 5-star laden defense that was so heralded and many on here still call one of the greatest defenses in history, had their hands on their knees gasping for air at the end of the 1st quarter.

Hope we can see the improvement in endurance and strength this year. The players have definitely bought in.

I found an interview with this guy, while searching for Tennessee Vol videos. Very impressive coach. Much better than Wylie coyote IMO.

Somewhat soft under Fulmer?? Al Wilson was not a soft football player. John Henderson wasn't very soft. Will Overstreet soft? Donte Stallworth was benching 400 as a "softmore". Jerrod Mayo was not a softy. Eric Berry played soft? Really. Am I misunderstanding what you mean by soft? Nebraska was roided up btw. They crushed everyone for 3 years except Texas in the Big-12 title game. Guess 95 UF was soft too. The won games fairly easy, against nearly everyone, til the faced the 'Roidhuskers'.

I think the "secret" is that he pretty much came out and said he is staying in Knoxville for quite a long time.

Very much so but Nebraska was one of the first schools to figure out the inclusion of the Olympic lifts and its supplementals into its strength and power routines.

Thanks for posting this; Very good article and appears that there is mutual respect between the head coach and the S&C coach.

Yeah, them and Mississippi St were among the first to "supplement" their workouts. I just took offense to the "soft" under Fulmer BS. Our 97 and 99 (which lost Nebraska) teams were not soft. Period.

I'm being serious here, but was nebraska proven to have used roids. I am ignorant on the issue.

Common knowledge young man. Did you watch the 1997 Bowl game? Recall the 1st quarter when JL took a toss sweep going left and got dropped by the boundary corner? He hit Jamal so hard he almost broke his hip!!!!! A 185 pound corner. Lewis never ran the ball right the rest of the game. Lost his nerve. Nebraska was in complete beast mode back then. Picture Wisconsin on steriods.

This thread title reminds me of UT's other (Ultra)Secret Weapon: Jim Bob Cooter.

I seem to recall that he took an assistant coaching-related position around the time Fulmer left. Anyone know if he's still around?
