Look at his resume. He hired Dan Mullen and hired two College World Series finalists at MSU and Arizona.
I'm not opposed to Blackburn, but his resume is nowhere close to Byrne's. The notion that only a UT alum can do the job is ludicrous. If Davenport can get Byrne to Knoxville, I say give her a raise and extension immediately.
Several coaches were interviewed when Kiffin was hired, head coaches at other places. it was true that Hamilton had already settled on Kiffin when interviewing those coaches but he did speak with them
there were 9 or 10 coaches told us no before Dooley was hired. No to even having a conversation not no to an offer. I believe all were head coaches. Was an impossible situation to get people to come ot.
Gundy and Strong said no, Strong after agreeing to take the job. before Jones..
The mistake there was not leaning on Kippie Brown for a year before hiring a suitable replacement the year after. What you never do is just what Hamilton did.. He hired an unqualified coach, out of desperation, and allowed him to run the program in the dirt over the next 3 years, before firing him and owing him a huge buyout, which we just finished paying.
Horrible move on many levels.
LWS do you still feel confident with Blackburn with this info that someone else has been interviewed from MSU? Sorry to keep asking you, the more time that goes by the less confident I am in Tennessee to handle this properly. Why don't they see that we need a strong AD in place now. Butch desperately needs guidance right now not two months from now. Thanks as always and Merry Christmas!!
Guess I am just shell shocked from past history but the longer it goes the more I fear them screwing this up as usual.

I still think that Blackburn and the Northwestern A.D. remain the top guys, with Blackburn still IMO probably at roughly 80% odds. Only other name I've heard this week is that of the current Cincy A.D., and this is really interesting: he's the guy who was at Colorado when CBJ jilted the Buffs to come to Rocky Top. And he's the guy who then hired MacIntyre. And that's as good a hire as the one I think Cincy's old A.D. has made at VaTech: Justin Fuente. Those two coaches would get my national coach of the year votes this year.
