this is the only quote I'm aware of that Davenport has made and it was in a release by UC, Maybe I missed something but not aware of any other statements she has made
Im so very grateful for the privilege of serving as the University of Cincinnatis interim president and provost. I have grown to love this institution, this city, and the many colleagues and friends I have come to know, said Davenport. Because of my experience here, I have the opportunity of a lifetime to serve as the next chancellor of the University of Tennessee's flagship campus. I am inspired by their confidence in my abilities to help them reach their goal of becoming a top-tier public research university. I also look forward to the chance to be closer to family.
The AD has been run by the three stooges for decades. UT has consistently went on the cheap with its coaches going back to Johnny Majors. Fulmer was an unknown quantity for the most part, as was Kiffin, and Dooley. Jones had experience but at lesser levels so why any of this is surprising is beyond me and that is with several different AD's and Administrators. The head booster owns the Browns. All this speculation of "UT is going to hire this high priced coordinator or that high priced head coach" goes against all known facts and evidence of UT's past. The powers that be aren't going to magically open up the checkbook simply because David Blackburn is an alum of UT.
Bama got tired of Losing, Boosters opened the check books went and got the best coach they could that they thought would give them the best chance to be the best and win a NC, and they did. Mich. did the same with JH. Ohio did with UM. Until Tennessee does the same and decides they want to WIN and win big, and the Boosters and school do the same Tennessee will never be back on top. JMO.

Who would you hire. Ill wait....
i think the bigger question is where were those guys before they got where they are now? That's the issue, there are only a handful of coaches who have achieved sustained success at multiple programs. They are Saban, Meyer, and Harbaugh. After that you have a bunch of coaches who have achieved success at times but not consistently like Sumlin, Malzahn, Kelly, Dabo, Freeze, and several others. Could UT be better off under one of them? Maybe, but it would cost a heck of a lot of money to possibly get either of them and you may not see any real improvement. Unfortunately, that is nature of college football at the moment with a handful of teams and coaches dominating the game. Even if UT had the same amount of big money donors as Alabama, which they don't, Saban wouldn't leave Alabama for UT neither would Meyer or Harbaugh so at this point we have to hope that Jones can build a winning program here. Maybe a Chip Kelly wants to get back into college in a year or two or Gruden? Otherwise, UT like 99% of the other programs in college football will take a risk with an up and coming coach.

.
that said, i also don't think we should do anything right now, given all the circumstances. but if this program decides it wants to be an elite program again, then at some point they're going to have to ask the question seriously...is butch jones going to be the guy to do that?
until then...it's just fodder for all of us.
Do you have a link for that article, because I have not seen or heard anything like that.
Re: the alleged Title IX comment made by Davenport in relation to the UTAD position. Like LWS, I have not read or seen any such article where she makes such a comment. What I have found are posts in VN that reference that claim. As far as actual news reports or interviews, it would appear to be an "urban legend". If someone actually finds it, they are a better data miner than I (and kudos to them).

That covers it pretty well.Yeah, this is pretty all wrong, but thanks for playing.
UT shelled out big money to bring Majors back home from Pittsburgh. He had just won a National Championship when he returned, that was not a hire made on the cheap. Now, Majors was ALWAYS chirping about his contract, thinking he should be the highest-paid coach in the country. Many times, UT obliged him and gave him a raise.
Fulmer was the hottest assistant in the country and had offers in hand from two SEC schools to become their head coach when the move was made on Majors. Chavis was consistently one of the highest-paid defensive coordinators in the country his last 10 years here.
Kiffin had been the head coach of a little-known team called the Oakland Raiders. But, sure, hiring an NFL coach that had been fired by an insane elderly man was doing it on the cheap. I'll give you Dooley, that was a debacle.
The "head booster" doesn't own the Browns. The son of one of UT's biggest boosters owns the Browns, but it's "Big Jim" Haslam that is our benefactor, not his son Jimmy. Jim is far from the only booster whose wallet speaks at UT.
Hiring an expensive coordinator goes against "all known facts and evidence?"How quickly you forget just last January when UT made Bob Shoop the 8th-highest paid assistant coach in the country.
But, hey, why let facts get in the way of a good rant?
Yeah, this is pretty all wrong, but thanks for playing.

i think the bigger question is where were those guys before they got where they are now?
point being, there are quality head coaches out there, and it's not likely we're going to poach any of those guys, or any of those big 3 that have been mentioned.
there's no guarantees. you don't know that Nick Saban is going to turn out to be "Nick Saban".
if they did, then why waste time with all the guys that came before he, or Meyer or Harbaugh?
you think if Clemson knew at the time Dabo would turn out like he has, they'd of wasted time with Tommy?
anyway.....this notion that we can't do better, or we should be scared of trying doesn't hold water.

I have looked and looked for the Article I seen last week and now it is no where to be found. Maybe it was one of the bogus artlicles and has since been taken down. When I seen it I was quite surprised I figured someone from here had seen it. I could very well be wrong but I did read it. What it said was anyone that was involved in the title 9 and was at UT in that ERA including when Coach Fulmer was the Coach at UT until to Date she would not want them involved in the UTAD in any way shape or form, then it said which would include David Blackburn being hired as UTAD. I in no way claim to know all that goes on I was just hoping someone else had seen it and could explain to me if it was true or not.
