I don't necessarily know about soundly per se, but I suspect the USU game will end like a lot of these games usually do: competitive through the first half, maybe even close, until midway through the 3Q everyone realizes that they're too gassed and just not big enough to compete for a full 60 minutes with an SEC-level depth chart, even if it's a thin and nominal one.

As for the game, I hope it's actually competitive. Austin Peay getting rolled was about as interesting as watching paint dry. Even Bobby P and big bad WKU, who had us on supposed upset alert that week, turned into a blowout.

Congrats on the national attention. That is a real testament to the kind of season Utah St. had.

With the losses to graduation for both sides injuries will play a major role here. If both teams come in at maximum health, I believe we'll win going away, but there are no guarantees in football.

We usually save the "sleeping with sheep" jokes for Wyoming. Man, we routinely beat them like a red haired step child. Say, didn't you guys play Wyoming not too long ago?

Anyway, I have another interesting link. Like I said, I really thought the Sports Illustrated ranking was way over the top. I think USAToday is a bit more reasonable:

They don't have us in the top 25, just in the "others that just missed the cut". I mean, that's still probably way overestimating how good we'll be next year, but it is really flattering to be getting this sort of attention. We've never been in any pre-season top 25 ranking before. I'm just hoping for a good season, and a trip to a bowl game.

Anyway, always nice chatting with you guys.

Man just able to catch up on this thread while sitting here entertaining at the Mavs game. Geez NBA bball sucks, but the beer helps.

Anywho...after reading all this I think many of the defend CBJ folks really have no place to bash Dooley. Frankly 100% of the stuff they threw out could be used during each year of his era.

With that said...I really think people underestimate the fact that Worley faced Clowney multiple times, and beat him in HS. Knowing this one particular factor does not allow me to hang my hat on the win as if it's some great sign that CBJ is going to be the next Neyland. Will he be??? Who knows, hope he is, but I agree with the folks that are still sitting back, watching, and taking it day by day.

My 2 cents and I'm sure the usual suspects will call me an idiot. I know what yall feel about me, and frankly could care less.

Saw where you said you're getting under our skin a little.... As far as I can tell, outside of a (seemingly) light-hearted joke or two you seem pretty cool. A lot more fun to be around than a lot of the people on here.

Thanks man! And thanks for coming over to USUFans to check out the crew. We've had a good experience with the fans of some of the big programs we've played before. We still have Auburn fans who come and post on our fan board from time to time. It really is fun to have some of these cross country games. When there isn't an overheated, longstanding rivalry or a conference championship on the line, it's easier to remember that it's just a game.

Getting angry or defensive should always be a reminder to step back and take a deep breath. If you're not having fun, you're doing it wrong.

Oh, and no matter what, Aggie Nation will be cheering for you guys in every other game this year. So.......

Wow, what are these sports writers drinking? Here's another one, this time from Yahoo Sports:

Y! SPORTS

They don't have Utah State in their pre-season top 25, but we do make their teams "on the radar", basically 26-41, not numerically ranked.

Again, I think this is crazy talk. We're just hoping to give you guys a good warm up, and escape without any season ending injuries.

It's obvious you're being a bit facetious, but as far as Utah State's ranking goes I'd say somewhere around 30 would be correct.

Facetious? Moi? Surely not!

But seriously, if we finish the season in the top 30, I will be ecstatic. My realistic hopes are to win our division, go to a decent bowl against a mid range PAC-12 team, and win in the bowl game.

Winning our conference and/or beating an SEC team would be success beyond my wildest dreams.

And again, no matter what happens, Aggie Nation will be cheering on the Vols for the rest of the season!
