Everything takes time. For example-

In 2007 8 teams scored 20+ points on MSU.
In 2008 8 teams scored 20+ points on MSU.
In 2009 8 teams scored 20+ points on MSU.

And i'd be willing to bet he wouldn't have gone bowling his first year with our schedule either.

Not bashing ur pt, but if this is going to be the case Butch, if unable to handle it, needs to throw in the towel and UT needs to throw the checkbook at a coach that can meet the demand of tough schedules. Whether in the college or NFL ranks. Maybe in a few yrs OBrien doesn't cut it in the NFL or Harbaugh eventually feels a pull back to the college ranks. Who knows.

Imo this fan base can no longer use the "tough schedule" as a reason for not winning. A tough schedule is the life we live. Something these coaches know we are facing with plenty of time and have to prepare for. Just like Dooley's biggest downfall was moving to the 3-4, but he was doing it with the future of our schedule in mind. We have been living it for yrs before CBJ, and we will continue to for the foreseeable future.

So I got a question about the actual NIU/USU game:

Is there a major difference in the style of O that NIU played and the style we had with Dobbs?I'm not talking talent or anything like that but the actual scheming and style. Thx.

You do realize that in the vandy game we were playing our 4th string or co 3rd string true freshman QB who may have had a hurt hand. Also our best receiver, without which we wouldn't have beaten USCe, went out early with an injury.

If Worley was still playing and North didn't get injured we win that game. We lost in the waning seconds of that game on a poorly overturned review.

The walk ons started in front of scholarship players... some of whom Jones signed.

Mizzou started walk ons and played in the SEC CG. USCe has started walk ons within the past couple of years. Not sure about this year. This year they replaced several LB's and their best DB. IIRC, they started Fr on D. They had less DL depth than UT did. They DID have a weaker schedule. But they also got a better coaching performance with the available talent. The USCe v UT game WAS an accurate reflection of how closely matched the rosters were... plus some match up advantages for UT.

PS- I am pointing out facts about the coaching performance too but that seems to get you all hot and bothered.

They tried to find someone who could beat Toney and Swafford out among the scholarship players and couldn't. They were doing something right. What major complaint do you have with the way Swafford played? He probably made fewer mistakes than Sutton who everyone loves.

Sapp played well as did Brewer. Not sure what issue you have with them... particularly Sapp.

Coleman is a talented athlete. If they can't coach him up... that's not something you should blame him for. As a recruit he was Rivals 250. He placed 5th in the GA 4A 110 m hurdles (that makes the "speed" argument null).

If coaches don't coach guys up or put them in a position to succeed... it is pretty ridiculous of you to take shots at their "lack of talent".

Hood was slow... but he played his responsibility which made him MUCH better than McCullers. You can live with DT's that play their responsibilities correctly and don't get pushed off the LOS.

BTW, Coleman was 5th on the team in tackles this year. McNeil and Sapp who people also take shots at for not being talented were both in the top 5 also.

And Vandy lost their whole secondary.... but Franklin found a way to win the game and cover receivers. That's what good coaches do. They find a way to overcome bad things.

IIRC a couple of our receivers had some drops in that game where the ball literally hit the WR in the hands but couldn't make the catch. Guess that was on the coaches too.

I said 20+, not just 20. They haven't given up 20+ points that many times in a season since, so the moral of the story is sometimes you actually have to wait for improvement.

I don't have any issues with any of them. Had you actually read what I posted you would've seen where I said most of them played well considering their talent level.

Coleman is fast, but he does not have fluid hips and is consistently getting burnt. And high school rankings are Irrelevent, any coach will tell you they don't use recruiting services. And if they were always correct Chris Donald would've been a superstar.

Look at everything we're losing next year. We're taking a step backward and it's terrifying. I was making fun of MTSU eaarly for losing to a service school in a bowl game but you know were not even in a bowl game so... I put myself in my place.

Im of the opinion that I'm not going to base my opinion after 1 year with our coaches. Thats whats bothersome...you fail to give credit for a good win and I have said the coaches made glaring mistakes in the UF and Vandy games. Your continued neglect of recognizing we won a game against a top 10 team with inferior talent shows you are grinding an axe.

A decent running back, a punter/kicker who had a really nice senior season, a few below average/underachieving DL, and an experienced OL with no nasty that struggled to communicate with one another. That's about it.
