Utah State opens as early Vegas favorite @Tennessee

LOL at your indignation over the coon-skin cap and whether it is a Davy Crockett cap vs. Dan'l Boone cap depending which side of the border you are standing on.. It is popularized by Crockett and Boone.

Get over yourselves, anyway. As far as most of the country is concerned, it's Rednecky and Hillbillysee.

Lol. No indignation or any emotion for that matter on my part. Just enjoy the irony of someone from another geographic region making inferences in regards to the level of intelligence in the South, only to be factually incorrect in his attempt at an insult.

And nice job using the 'buddy system' by including the rest of the country in your take. I'm sure you traveled far and wide to gather opinions from people across the continental United States to make that statement as well. Tells me your weak and that you actually care what people think.

So where are you sitting in the lunchroom today? Hope you get the social acceptance you are obviously striving for.

No. In the English language, we try to use some punctuation AND maintain some level of subject verb agreement.

Or you try to deflect to something as desperate and pathetic such as grammar smack, because you are getting hammered when it comes to point by point rebuttals.

If we aren't favored by August, I'm going to place my first ever sports bet.

Why wait? Get in on the action NOW while they still have Utah State favored. Take Tennessee and the points. Why would you want to wait for Tennessee to be favored and have to cover??

Are you always this soft and sensitive? I'm impressed. Most college sports message board posters are more thick-skinned.

I have been around a bit, I have been to each of the 50 states, except for AR, RI, AK, Maine, and Vermont.

I've also travelled extensively for work in Asia, Europe, Central America, South America, and Australia/NZ.

When people think of Kentucky/Tennessee they generally think of the following:

-Country Music
- Farmers
- Hillbillies
- Rednecks

Just to clarify some things and not to join this smack insulting thing:
Farmers feed the nation.
Hillbillies and Rednecks, well if (more likely when) a major disruption of services occur or some national disaster shuts down society, Hillbillies and Rednecks won't notice much. They are rather self-sufficient. Grocery stores shut down? Hunt and gather their own food. Gas stations all gone? Well-made moonshine can run a car. Car won't run anymore. Many with a piece of wire and spit can get theirs started. Need a decent place to sit. They just cut and whittle some pieces of wood and make a chair. I may not be one but been around them long enough to have a healthy respect for them. Yes, in my view many are bigots and sort of uneducated. But they're smart where it counts in real life. Can't ask for a lot more than that. Just saying, not smack talking.

After doing a little studying and using Volnation logic, UT could be in trouble against USU.

In 2012, USU played Toledo in a bowl game and beat them soundly. That same Toledo team beat a Butch Jones' coached Cincy team in 2012. So using the VN logic, USU should win the game rather handily.

:)

Here's the funny thing... He claims to have visited most of the states in the south, and still apparently can't see past the stereotypes. It's funny. A bit self-incriminating on his part. But funny.

Oh, and another funny thing... He opened up the redneck banter, then got snippy about the polygamy retort that naturally came back on him.

LOL! Thanks for the polygamy reference.

Sorry Bubba. This is not high school sports anymore.

anyone actually confirmed the spread in Vegas (or anywhere), yet?

The first college football lines don't get released until June when the Golden Nugget does their 2014 Games Of The Year.

That is literally the first opportunity for this line to be made available.

There are ZERO casinos who have put a line on this game, much less a line of Utah State -2.

When the line is released this summer, Tennessee will definitely be favored (and might be a heavy favorite).

Sounds like they are pretty much where we are right now in terms of replacing starters. Plus they're experiencing major coaching changes.

Non-Smack Talk Perceptions:

1. USU as a whole must learn a whole new scheme with a whole new coaching staff. We've been through that and our guys are in their 2nd year under CBJ & Co. Advantage--UT

2. Both replacing their OL, both apparently have players who saw some action last season. Admitting bias, I think our guys are more field tested. talent-wise, we might and I do stress might, have a advantage there. But USU program is known for having hard working players who perform on the field, win, lose, or draw. Advantage--Even

3. Both are replacing their DL. Our guys are higher rated overall but never dismiss the ferocity of Polynesian players. I've seen them in action. take them lightly at your own enormous risk. It lookslike both teams will employ a lighter and faster DL. This will be a game in which the real factor is who has the better DL coaches. Advantage--USU because they've had such DL longer.

4. I believe without question, our LB corps is just flat out better. Especially with the Maggit - Johnson tandem with the others not being slouches by any means. If the DL plays even halfway decent, the LB corps is going be murderous. Advantage--UT

5. USU seems to have promising players at this position who showed improvement as the season progressed. Like us and except for Sutton, and I dare to add that walk on guy, Swafford, we both have relatively unproven but talent people in the secondary. However, we have "unproven" talent that played exceptionally as JUCOs and that will be the balance tipper. Advantage--UT

5. Quarterback? Don't even debate it. USU's back from injury stud is a proven stud. Don't even try to debate it. Advantage--USU

6. Frankly, I will be shocked beyond belief if USU's secondary can stop our WRs. We have a bunch of Ponderosa Pine and Sequoia trees, now combined with speedsters playing these positions. And they were baptized last year in fire and brimstone. They're ready now. USU WRs aren't far behind and actually have more experience. So until proven otherwise, Advantage--Even

7. Special teams, I'd say USU has the better one. Because we have too many uncertainties. Who and how good will our P/PK be? We have decent KRs but how good will the blocking be or the guys running down field to tackle opposing KRs? On that basis, I'd say Advantage--USU

8. Coaches, quite frankly, I can't honestly claim to know who has advantage here. CBJ has been with his team longer than the new guys at USU. But that isn't enough to say which coach is better. Plus I don't really know anything about the new USU guys. I know the Butch is driven and determined to win. I know he aims to leave his mark on the UT program. I know he puts his money where his mouth is when he talks about relentless effort. But all i know, the USU is the same. So I can't say yet who's the better coach. My heart says BUTCH but my head says "You don't know that."

All of the early 2014 Projections I'm seeing are putting UT in the high 50's to 60's.

So yeah... people are thinking about them.

I am amazed you know that. I have no idea where Utah State is projected.

Good write-up. Thanks for putting some thought into it rather than the mindless blather that I'm seeing too much of lately.

See my thoughts in (just for you guys) orange.

Sounds like they are pretty much where we are right now in terms of replacing starters. Plus they're experiencing major coaching changes.

We have lost a couple of position coaches on defense. I'm not sure I would describe that as major changes.

Non-Smack Talk Perceptions:

1. USU as a whole must learn a whole new scheme with a whole new coaching staff. We've been through that and our guys are in their 2nd year under CBJ & Co. Advantage--UT

Um... Our staff is also in it's second year. When Gary Andersen left last year to go to Wisconsin, about half of the staff stayed.

2. Both replacing their OL, both apparently have players who saw some action last season. Admitting bias, I think our guys are more field tested. talent-wise, we might and I do stress might, have a advantage there. Agree

We return a lot of guys that have played a lot. I don't think we drop off too much.

4. I believe without question, our LB corps is just flat out better. Especially with the Maggit - Johnson tandem with the others not being slouches by any means. If the DL plays even halfway decent, the LB corps is going be murderous. Advantage--UT

You will see a very very good LB corp in August. Fackrell, Vigil, Vigil, and McMillan are no slouches.

5. USU seems to have promising players at this position who showed improvement as the season progressed. Like us and except for Sutton, and I dare to add that walk on guy, Swafford, we both have relatively unproven but talent people in the secondary. Agree. Utah State secondary has some ? right now.

5. Quarterback? Don't even debate it. USU's back from injury stud is a proven stud. Don't even try to debate it. Advantage--USU

Agree

6. Frankly, I will be shocked beyond belief if USU's secondary can stop our WRs. We have a bunch of Ponderosa Pine and Sequoia trees, now combined with speedsters playing these positions. I would give the advantage to UT

7. Special teams, I'd say USU has the better one. Because we have too many uncertainties. Who and how good will our P/PK be? We have decent KRs but how good will the blocking be or the guys running down field to tackle opposing KRs? On that basis, I'd say Advantage--USU

Agree. Small advantage USU.

8. Coaches, quite frankly, I can't honestly claim to know who has advantage here. CBJ has been with his team longer than the new guys at USU. But that isn't enough to say which coach is better. Draw. I think both staffs are solid. USU will have a new DL and LB position coaches because a couple of our coaches moved up to some bigger opportunites. Our DL coach is the new DL coach at Vandy. GREAT coach. Even better person. Sad to see him go, but happy for the opportunity he has in the SEC.

There is alot of horse hooey being spewed here.

UT will HAVE a significant raw talent advantage.

This is a test of UT's staff.

I can agree with this. UT will certainly field the team with more talent on paper.

I think UT fans will be impressed by the scheme, coaching, preparation, and will to win that you see from this Utah State squad.

This team has won 20 games in the past 2 seasons. They have a core of upperclassmen players that understand the committment, dedication, and work to achieve that.

There is a very strong culture of understanding what is required to win as well as a very strong will to win.

I'm not predicting win at UT, but I am predicting a war.

What does this even mean? Are they playing paper football?

Our boys, at almost every position, will be larger, faster, and more talented than your crew.

I think UT fans will be impressed by the scheme, coaching, preparation, and will to win that you see from this Utah State squad.

I believe UT fans will have a lot of respect for the will and heart in a team that came to UT and was paid to take their loss with dignity.

Yes. They are very used to beating mid-major talent (well, in the last two years anyway). They have very little experience lining up against SEC talent year in and year out. There is a distinct difference.

There is a very strong culture of understanding what is required to win as well as a very strong will to win.

There is a very strong culture that understands how to play in mid-major games. That culture did little good against an anemic USCw team that got Lane Kiffin fired last year, BYU, etc...

I'm not predicting win at UT, but I am predicting a war.

I am also predicting a war-- for perhaps a quarter or a half, after which talent and depth become an issue. I am predicting that UT either blows you out or takes the foot off the accelerator to let you keep your dignity, along with the pay-out that we gave you to come in and take the loss and tune us up in our first game.
