Check out this article in the Birmingham news:
Auburn president Jay Gogue wouldn't object to Tigers moving to SEC East | al.com

Auburn would be open to moving into the East...providing the SEC adds Texas A & M and Missouri to the West.

Auburn's president says they would request Alabama as their annual game.

The Vols may then get Missouri.

Current Annual Games
Auburn - Georgia
Alabama - Tennessee
MS State - Kentucky
Ole Miss - Vandy
LSU - Florida
Arkansas - South Carolina

Could Become:
Alabama - Auburn
Arkansas - South Carolina
Texas A & M - Georgia
LSU - Florida
MS State - Kentucky
Ole Miss - Vandy
Missouri - Tennessee

Thoughts?

I don't like it either, but currently Auburn-Alabama has a little more attention then our long-standing rivalry....so I can see Auburn getting Alabama every year in this scenario

This isn't breaking news, I think it's pretty well known that the Alabama rivalry is going to find it's way to the chopping block as more teams are added to the conference. It's the price we pay for conference expansion. I hope the UT AD enjoys that extra TV money, cause I think a lot of UT fans are going to miss the 3rd Saturday in October.

One solution to keeping the game might be adding a game to the conference schedule with 6 against the east and four against the west with two permanent opponents from the west.

Just make Missouri join the east, and they can continue big 12 matchup as their annual.

Mike Slive isn't stupid. He isn't going to stop the most historically signifigant rivalry in the south.

Hope that this doesn't happen. But if the vols come to Missouri every other year, I would be happy.

If, and this is a giant IF, we lose the bama game, I would much rather pick up A&M. At least pick up a team with some football history

They already took away our 3rd Saturday...it's been the 4th recently, including this year

About the only thing I like about this is adding Auburn back as an annual opponent, like it was before divisional play. Otherwise, I hate it.

With Pitt and Syracuse going to the ACC does this open the door for WV to make the move to the SEC and join A&M?

Looking for what people think due to this breaking news. The Big East bye laws require a 27 month notice before a team can leave. Pitt and Syracuse are expected as of today to wait this time out.

I would like WV joining the SEC and think that they bring a little excitement along with them.

A big part of SEC expansion will be expanding the SEC into new and large markets. The WVU market doesn't bring anything to the SEC. Missouri brings St. Louis and Kansas City. And, growing it to the Midwest is much greater than adding in the WVU market.

well i am not a big fan of any of this expansion BS - but from a competitive standpoint picking up MO and losing AL makes winning the SEC east a heck of a lot easier

I'm not totally sold on Arky and SC being in the SEC so the idea of MO being in doesnt really appeal much to me but it seems inevitable at this point

listen guys it sucks to lose the rivalry..but i like it from two prespectives..

1) when we do play twice every 4 years, games are that more intense
2) ALOT EASIER to win the east playing joke missouri over bama.

The ACC is adding Pitt and Syracuse. Rutgers and UConn may be next. They have forced conference realignment, so the SEC needs to find team number 14 and maybe 15 and 16 before the Big 12 and Big East teams are gone to other conferences. Its time to be proactive. Maybe add West Virginia or Missouri. We won't be able to get any teams from the ACC. With what the ACC is doing Slive can't wait now.

Up until 1992 we played Auburn and Ole Miss every year, but not GA and FLA. I'd say that was a pretty good tradeoff. At various times we've had rivalries with Ga Tech, North Carolina etc that have been forced to cease. It's just the way things work.

Surely the tradition of this game cannot be overlooked. That is one of the biggest games all season on a national scale. It may not be so hot right now due to our near irrelevance but still.......It is the 3rd Frikin Saturday in October!
