Memphis is a cespool of low class thugs. I left there 8 years ago. The police can't control "those" people and they know it.
If by "those" people you simply mean criminals, cool. If you are trying to imply more, watch your step.

It's funny to me. I travel a lot and it never fails that when the discussion of Memphis comes up with people from "pick a state" they have the same opinion. The story is the same. "We went to Memphis for this or that and was shocked at how rough it was. We were scared to wonder far". It doesnt matter if they are from Cali, DC, Washington State or Middle Tennessee. Threre is a reason for that. People don't just sit around and think of ways to say things about Memphis. I like Memphis and know how to get around but I am a little more careful when I travel there than most placed. Detroit, Indianapolis and NOLA. (NOLA not as much).

The implication is the criminal element. No other implication is needed.

Memphis is a lot like New Orleans. You go a block or two this direction and your in a decent area. Go a block or two in that direction and you better watch your back!

You can feel sorry for whatever you want to. I lived in "Mimfus" for 32 years and you know EXACTLY what I am talking about..........That city is rotten from the Mayor down. Crime has taken over. Look what has happend to Hickory Hill in the last decade. The Mall of Memphis CLOSED because of what? CRIME........

You do know crime can happen anywhere at anytime. It is as easy to be held at gun point on Beale Street as it is on Chruch Street Station. I will agree with ya about the Mayor on this issue. He really has let crime get out of control, but I really don't know if there is anything he can do about it.

Doens't Memphis have 2 mayors? That seems retarded.

That's in just about every large city.

Citys don't just get a reputation, they earn them. Memphis made their bed. That is the truth. Until the residents who live there take a stand and make changes needed it will remain the same. It's not just the politicians. Remember who elects them and who does or does not hold them accountable.

I will agree with that to a point, but my point is about crime overall. Memphis isn't the only place that has crime, its everywhere. Heck, Bill Gates isn't even safe from crime.

In theory yes but statistically no.

True, but in New Orleans and Memphis it seems to be more extreme. I've lived in New Jersey and Chicago and the areas are not quite as defined.

Take a trip to Gary, IN. and you might change your veiw a little on Memphis about crime.
