UT still 3rd in AP

Yea, Michigan should be #1 and we should be #2. Duke only beat a crappy Kentucky team.
Duke has beaten 5 ranked teams... we've played 2 ranked teams and I think Michigan has played 1. Duke is clear #1 at this point in season

Ole Miss is deservingly in the top 25 now at #18. Kermit Davis is doing a great job. They were picked 14th in the SEC during media days. They’re this year’s Tennessee.

ACC bias.. FSU loses 2 games and moves UP 2 spots. UNC gets killed by unranked Louisville, drops 1 spot. Unbelievable.

How does UNC only drop one spot after getting destroyed at home by 21 points?
Welcome to the "They are basketball royalty" show...Just goes to show you how basketball bias works...Kinda like Notre Dame in football...They could lose 4 or 5 games and still be in the top 25.

get used to it this early in the season. the bandwagon voters get to have their fun. as the season goes along, its hard for them to get away with it. if we go into Kentucky 23-1, we're the #1 team in the country no matter what Duke or Michigan or Virginia do. Duke plays Virginia twice. They wont sweep and Virginia is not going to jump us because I know for a fact they are overrated. they will lose 2 games by then. NCST and Duke, Maybe even NC. if we're undefeated in the SEC it's money.

ESPN has a vested interest in promoting the ACC thanks to their business relationship; ESPN virtually owns the ACC basketball product on TV and will always promote them over other conferences in basketball. There's a very real reason you'll always see Duke and UNC highlights (not to mention FSU and other ACC schools) at the top of the NCAA men's basketball page, even on days when other teams have bigger wins or bigger stories.

I did notice that we gained 24pts in the coaches poll and gained another 1st place vote.

Also noticed the big jump in points from the top 4. The difference between UM (4th) to Gonzaga (5th) is 94pts.

It's Jan.! Most teams have 16 games (8 weeks) of regular season left. Does it matter where a team is ranked on 1/14/19?

For a program trying to gain credibility and respect amongst the blue bloods, most definitely it does. Now, does it mean anything come March? No, but it's a heck of a feather in the cap and a selling point to recruits, and there is a reason we all still talk about that one week back in February 08. It's special and noteworthy, if not all that important to determining the season's fate.

Because that's all UT has had as a program. Yes, it's nice but in the grand scheme of things it doesn't mean squat. Does anyone remember who was ranked #1 last season in the 2nd week of Jan?

Basketball is a tournament sport and that's all anyone remembers. I would say more people remember Loyola-Chicago making the Final Four than who won the tournament (Villanova).

I guess i can read the future. a few hours later Duke loses and so will Virginia in a few weeks if not sooner. Don't expect the Vols to jump Michigan. Duke drops to #3. We move up to #2 in both polls. Michigan will not lose until the end of the season unfortunately. We should be #1 in AP very soon, just not Coaches.

Nobody is arguing any differently that basketball is a tournament sport. Heck, football is too, now. And I admitted that “in the grand scheme of things” it won’t matter to anyone else in my very last statement of the post you quoted. But it will matter to Tennessee fans, players, coaches, and the kids they try to recruit to come here.

Making a blanket statement to say it’s irrelevant is just foolish, IMO. It may not matter nationally in 2 months to Duke fans, Oregon fans, or Penn State fans, but that was never the point. It matters to our program and our fans, and it further signifies that we are a national player.

GT and Pastner are garbage, yet they beat Syracuse badly in N.Y. Syracuse went around and over Duke and beat them on their home court. Go figure.

Not very concerned about our rank, at this point. Let's win tonight, vs Arkansas. Just get into the tournament, as healthy and hot as possible.
