UT Football Team: No Respect

If we win the SEC this will be one of the weirdest/ least satisfying SEC titles ever.

I'll be happy about it but it just won't have the same feel as the two in the 90's, IMO.

Wow  I've yet to see an unsatisfying SEC title.

This is why I'm not a Fulmer fan. There should be no question about having your guys ready for this weekend yet, I bet everyone of us wonders if they will show up motivated.

You're not a Fulmer fan because of a post on an internet discussion board...that is Silly.

I have not doubt these guys will be fired up and ready to play, due to the tradition and meaning Fulmer has to tennessee Football!!!!

I'll be a little more clear for you jlaw. I'm not a Fulmer fan because he doesn't have the ability to consistently motivate a team. Most of the time, his teams play to the talent level of their opponent and then try to elevate it at the end of the game to pull off the win.

Granted...an SEC title would be great...especially considering how long it has been since we won it..

BUT...100-37 against our two biggest rivals is going to sting regardless of winning the title or not...

And it will continue to sting until we return the favor....hopefully next year

Getting blown out three times in one season, our coach on the verge of being fired. Empty seats in our stadium over the last half of the season. Maybe unsatisfying is the wrong word, but when I look at our team I don't think SEC champs. This has not been a typical run to a title is all I'm really saying.

Unfortunately, you cant come here to talk positive about the Vols. All some people want to do is dwell and relive all the negatives and losses and not to positives and look to the future. The same people that love to rehash our embarassing losses sure dont like to rehash our great success against Georgia and Arkansas.

I just keep coming back because I like a good debate and I want to put my unwanted 2 cents worth of positive sentiment towards the Vols in this Forum

and if you want to settle for 8-4 or 9-3 seasons year after year then you wasted your 2 cents

this is one game where the players really need no motivation from Fulmer

That's my opinion. Coaches get teams motivated for mid-season OOC matchups - not late season conference games with everything on the line. If anyone on the roster needs motivation this weekend, they are at the wrong place.

The coaches should have every player motivated for ALL games. Thats for every sport, just not fb.

What do you suggest we do? Im sure step no 1. is fire Fulmer, right? Who is the great coach that will save us from despair? Who is this coach whos teams always play with great consistency, recruits top 5, and will represent our great University well?

Maybe it will be someone of Sabans stature. A coach who will go 6-6 next year. Although it will probably not be a coach with his history and reverence, probably some lower level school coach. What if he goes 6-6 next year? What then? Will you be happy? Will a 1 year coach who goes 6-6 next year who has no previous big college experience be able to convince recruits to come to Tennessee?

Sounds pretty darn scary to me

Isn't this statement true with most every football game played (please don't ask for examples, they are obvious)?

So just maintain the "I think we can win" attitude and lose the "we could just as easily drop this game" attitude and have Fun.

Go Vols!

The premise of the thread was that the vols were getting "no respect." I was merely saying that not being unanimously favored by pundits isn't a lack of respect, given Tennessee's track record this year. I don't have an "attitude" about thinking we'll lose, I am just not oblivious to reality. Reality is that we are not a juggernaut facing a patsy in this game. It is a competitive match up. Be as enthusiastic about the vols chances as you'd like, but it is ridiculous to claim disrespect because observers from beyond the fan base aren't doing back flips over Tennessee's chances in this game given the match up.

As I said, I think we can win. I hope we do. But Kentucky has a legitimate chance.

Isn't losing a reality in every game???

So, once again just be positive and Go Vols!!!

I'm trying to figure out what UT has done to earn respect. Blown out by a 6-5 Bama team on the road, Florida on the road and a 6-5 Cal team on the road.

The difference is, all of those teams played their best early in the season. Alabama had LSU on the ropes before their own personal 9/11, and Cal was poised to become #1 before their starter was hurt and the backup had a clock management "issue." Florida also looked to get a little too cocky for a young team after they beat us. They have all slipped up. UT has gotten better and is undefeated at home. Plus, we destroyed Georgia and the defense has stepped up big time recently. We still get less respect than "scary" 8-4 Georgia did at this time last year.

Really? It took a field goal off the goal post for us to come from behind to beat Vandy, and we blew a 21 point lead against USC.

That's real good an all, but try this one.

UK lost at home to the same team UT beat on the road. That seems a little more relevant.

It's not like they almost beat two of the most talented teams in the country the two previous weeks or anything.
