UT-FL- Gut Feelings

I am trying to figure out how UT is going to stop anyone with a pulse on offense. The last several games have shown that Shoop has no clue what he is doing. I am not convinced that he has any idea how to stop an offense that shows motion or has the capability of running a wr sweep or screen. UT should match up well with UF but the defensive coaching staff is atrocious. UT should be able to move the ball a little on offense but will it be enough to overcome the defense? I was all for the Shoop hire based off of what he had done at Vandy and PSU but it is clear that he had little to do with that success. He looks absolutely lost on the sidelines.

That is very telling since he is in the Press Box

These are just my gut feelings about this game:

1) There will be an asterisk put next to this game by the national sports people because of the hurricane if UT wins handily (28-7 type of score). The national sports people will say "The Gators did not get to practice, players are suspended, blah, blah, blah" The Vols will get no credit for winning.

2) If the Gators win this game Butch will get roasted for the same reasons that the Gators get a pass for losing (Gators did not practice, players suspended, blah, blah). The roasting might be deserved, we will have to wait and see how the "Coaching" aspect of the game goes.

3) QD will get every snap this game. We need consistency and JG looked, and was inconsistent last week versus an inferior opponent (Not knocking JG I wanted him to win the starting job outright this spring so we could have him 3 years or more. He also fits the offensive style better).

4) QD will throw at least 1 pick this week. He has tried to fit the ball into triple coverage during the GT game too many times and last week threw it straight to the ISU player in the end zone.

5) UT will out rush FL this week. Kelly gets over 100 yards.

6) The Vols defense comes with a vengeance, there will be blitzes from everywhere. The D holds the Gators rushing to under 100 yards and passing under 175 yards.

With all of this said I feel the Vols win a low scoring game 23-20.

What are your "gut feelings" on this game.

That we finally wear orange pants for away game.

I think those gut feelings might be Volnation wanting to pole you.

Seriously, there is no reason for the Vols to not win this game.
A loss would be a major failure by Butch Jones. Florida's offense might be the worst I've ever seen.

Florida's defense is better than the Vols have seen so far, but Unless the Vols D has a drastic turnaround, I can see the Gators running through the Vols porus D

The Vols must be able to run the ball consistently or QD doesn't finish the game.

Whichever team rushes for the most yards will win.

It's still Florida. Vols must bring their A game, run the ball effectively, protect the QB, and win the turnover battle to win the game.

I know Vegas is excellent at what they do, but not perfect. I don't remember what the line was last year but doubt it was Tenn +10
Early in the season is when they are least likely to be accurate and they only have one Fl game and 2 TN games to gather data.
I'm thinking Fl scores 20, but the VOLS score 31 with their 1st field goal of the year.

4) He has tried to fit the ball into triple coverage during the GT game too many times and last week threw it straight to the ISU player in the end zone.
Prove it. If it is true... then it should be really easy to prove. I watched the GT game a half dozen times trying to prove myself wrong. I saw once that he threw into coverage to JJ and once to Wolf. I didn't see anything else that wasn't a normal convergence of coverage after the throw. It is important to know what you are looking at too. GT played a lot of zone. Defenders in a zone will always break to the ball at the throw. It always "looks crowded" by design. Part of what you want out of a zone is lots of tacklers around receivers as soon as they make the catch. If you are accusing QD of trying to hit soft spots in GT's zone with a player on all 3 sides... that's true but not "triple coverage". That's pretty much what you do vs a zone.

QD explained the pick. A corner dropped off a shorter route into his throwing lane. He made a mistake. He made a bad read of the coverage. It happens.... but it wasn't throwing into a crowd on that occasion.

What are your "gut feelings" on this game.
Dormady will play well and especially if he gets help from the receivers. UT's O overall will be more effective than many think.

I'm concerned about the D stopping the run because of the LB's and specifically Jumper.

Not sure why we are worried about these guys. They haven't beat us in 717 days.........:D

Just have a feeling this could be like the LSU game in Baton Rouge after Katrina in 2005. Tigers (Gators) come out emotional and take it to the Vols in first half. After adrenalin wears off the Vols make a come back and win in a thriller down the stretch. Just hope the rest of the season doesn't go like '05!

Me too. I’ve said numerous times on here that if we lose to Vandy again I’ll help Butch pack. Lol.

The next time we lay an egg, can you fire up the coaching rumors forum? We gotta let Gruden and Chip Kelly know how much VolNation wants them if things go south.

I think we should win the game. But it’s Florida and it’s in Gainesville, a place we’ve only won a couple times in my lifetime, so all bets are off.

I’d love to win both, but I almost think that UGA game is the more important of the two.

I haven't been a fan for a long while.. I know this rivalry is the most anticipated of all college football just about. But why?

Did someone kick someone's dog or something? Just curious.. And asking the stupid question.

Its the same tish almost every year. They always look awful before they play Tennessee. And we assume this is the year we get em. Watch em come out and play like the New England Patriots Saturday. I don't have a good feeling about this game. Maybe I still have a psychological disorder from all the letdowns and failures to beat them when we should've. Still have memories of Fred Talylor in an interview, "they can't beat us, and they know they can't beat us". I feel for all the victims of Irma, but I'm hoping we crush all self-esteem in Gainesville. Let em lose all hope of beating UT ever again.

Gut says 20-16 gators, brain says 23-19 vols.
