UT close to deal with Jeff Brohm

All we've done by asking these guys is raised the stakes in the arms race. Gundy got his raise and extension yesterday and Brohm can use that same leverage today.

That can happen with any current Head coach. Is that supposed to keep you from trying?

UT had a preliminary conversation with Brohm, but it's unclear if anything will come from it. It makes zero sense why a coach would stay at Purdue vs. Tennessee. If things go south with Brohm look for Morris or Doeren. I know...it sucks. I hope my contact is wrong.

morris already said not interested.

He is reporting that Brohm is a done deal. If this is try what a way to end this coaching search, with Jimmy Freaking Hyams breaking the news.

After Guarantano's dad's threat what are the odds that the football players protest any hire that is made?

I can live with JB! On a lighter note any news on espn firings? There's a few I would like thrown to the streets.

So you like Norvell, a guy who is WINNING with your other choice's recruits, over a guy who instantly got Purdue bowl-eligible in one season after 4 straight years of steaming garbage?

Give me a break.

My point with Saban was just that you CANNOT base everything about the potential of a coach on his first season. To me, it shows potential that he improved Purdue as much as he did in Year 1, not that he IS the next Saban. My point is that Saban still had to take his lumps regardless of how good he is/was in 2007 because of the state of the program.

When you hire mediocrity you get exactly that. Honestly at this point I would rather have Kiffin. Could care less he bolted on us for the USC job. He will be a HC in the SEC and I would rather have him on our sideline then the other.

I posted elsewhere that I expected Brohm to be our next target and to watch for him to turn us down. Still think that's how it plays out, but having said that, he brings a great deal to the table....offensive mind, knows qb talent and can coach it up, family man, and offers great stability. He looks to be a long term solution and that would mean a lot. Everyone associated with UT football should absolutely abhor the thought of another coaching search anytime in the next decade. I pray he's our coach by the end of the day.

Good hire

Not flashy, but solid

Brohm should do good here

Which is the best we can hope for at this point. Not going to lie, after the hopes of getting Gundy, it does feel a little "meh" but I do believe this is a solid hire. It's all going to depend on what staff he brings with him.

If he’s the guy .... please please please do not agree to anything more than 3 years but give him huge incentive bumps.

*Insert fake enthusiasm for a sup-par unproven coach* We will be doing this same thing in 3 years when this doesn't work out. "Big name, explosive, enpensive hire." SMH

Ehhh ... I'm in on Brohm. Not a particularly exciting hire, but ok.

AT LEAST I've heard of him, which is more than I can say for Butch Jones or Derek Dooley when they were hired. And I might even be more excited about him than I would have been for Mullen -- probably about the same.

Hope this is not true. Another 5 years of "rebuilding" then right back where we are today. Our administration will never learn.

dude. this again? give it a rest. we're not in the position of being able to dictate how this goes. you get brohm, all things considered, we have fallen ass backwards in to a pile of daisies if this hire is true.

you never did answer my question yesterday.......who do you think we should target?

Like the Hire! Hope he doesn't just bring all his assistants with him and give them all raises like Butch did. We will give him enough money to hire a great staff. I would like to see Shannon get a look for DC
