If we make a Final Four run or NC....How high in next years draft do you think Lofton or anyone on the team will go?

I know where you're going with this, but it won't matter for Lofton unless he seriously improves ball handling, defense, and a few other things. I have not seen enough of T. Smith to know where he might rank in pro standards. Everyone else is irrelevant right now, so far as the NBA goes.

I was looking at some 08 mock drafts last night and some has lofton in the 40's and the highest I saw has him in the low teens. I would bet Tyler Smith could be a 1st round and in 2 years Ramar Smith may be a lottery pick.

I definitely agree with the Ramar assessment. Lottery may be a bit much, but a very high pick nonetheless...

My guesses ...

Lofton (late first/early second) - 2008
T. Smith (mid first) - 2008
R. Smith (mid first) - 2009
W. Chism (late first) - 2009
J.P. Prince (early second) - 2009
D. Crews (mid second) - 2010

Pure speculation, but it's fun to speculate :)

I think T. Smith and R. Smith will be first round picks at some point. Chism, if he improves has a chance with his range. As of now that's it. Maybe Lofton in a back up role but not likely.

I'm not trying to be mean but what do you base that on?

Right now we've only seen Tyler Smith and JP Prince play in the summer leagues where they are playing against players from Roane State and Catholic with no defense being played so we still need to see what he can do with a year of development at the SEC level. He was good last year at Iowa but not an NBA player so we'll have to see how he'll develop. JP Prince no ones seen much of since he barely played at Arizona before transferring. Lofton will got late and i dont think he'll make it. Ramar if he can develop a consistant outside shot and a midrange game could go high. Chism will have to develop an midrange because he'll be playing PF. Crews needs to develop on shooting and learn to do more things then dunk. Obviously Jordan Howell is our best NBA prospect though.

Everyone has counted out Lofton since High School and the guy just consistantly proves everyone wrong. It is true that a pure shooter has to be on the right team to make it in the NBA (look at JJ Reddick), but Lofton has developed a slashing element to his game that gives him a little space to shoot.
He is good on his positioning as a defender to make up for his lack of quickness and foot spead.
If he does well this year, I see him as an early second round pick and he will have a successful NBA career. I for one will not doubt him as so many others have.

weaknesses:

Ramar: outside shot/some control issues
Chism: consistent play/defense
Crews: ball handling/mid range shot
Lofton: quickness/athleticism

those are just my thoughts on what some of the guys need to work on this year to become a NBA player

Lofton was looking very good last year until his ankle injury. I expect with another summer of conditioning and playing, he'll be a lot quicker and stronger.

Ramar should benefit a lot from this summer league, imo. A lot of it is running and driving to the basket like regular pickup games, but this is against big, strong, good competition. It should help prevent those out of control shots like last year.

Chism didn't seem in the best shape last year, but with another summer of conditioning, he should be in better shape. All that running in the hot gym ought to do wonders.

Crews is looking like his shooting is getting a bit better, and he didn't look like he had those stone hands from last year.

I know they've got a long way to the NBA, but they're getting there. Lofton will play somewhere in the NBA...I just don't know that he'll be a top pick.

I won't doubt him, either. But you're right when you say he will have to get on the right team -- moreso than a lot of players. On some teams, Lofton would never see the court ... on others, he'd be a key contributor.

If we win back to back National Championships, then I see 3 or 4 top ten picks like Florida.

It's always good to dream.

If we win the championship this year it wouldn't surprise me to see most of our players bolt to the NBA.

its hard to tell because the players that would be leaving early, with an exception of Tyler, don't seem to be NBA ready at this point... but if they can become that in a year then ok

I also think Ramar would leave too if we won it all. Probably wouldn't be smart to leave after 2 years, but I bet he would leave.

I would hope everyone except Chris and JuJaun would stay, but Florida these last 2 seasons are the rare exception were players put college ball in front of the pros.

Wayne should stay at least 3 or probably 4 and Duke should stay 4 years unless they change overnight. I don't think JP Prince will be that good, but who knows. But we have some great recruiting classes coming up.

Tyler Smith is kinda in the same situation Corey Brewer was in. Corey's dad (Ellis, aka Pee Wee) was not dying, but he has diabetes and had to get one his legs amputated. I think he told Corey to stay in college and just have fun after the '06 championship. I think Corey was leaning towards pro, cuz of his health. I think his dad didnt attend a single college game, cuz of his health. After this yrs title, Corey told his dad that he will have the best leg ever. Unlike Noah, Horford, and Green's dad, Pee Wee wasnt a pro athlete. Him and Corey spent countless in the summer in tobacco fields. I think thats a great story.

i guess Tyler will make a decision based on what his dad tells him :dunno:

but lets forget about that, lets think about this potentially great season we could have this year with possibly 6 0r 7 guys who could average double digits next season :dance2:

If any of them forgo and leave early, I will wish them the best and support them. But I just hope they can win at least 1 title, while in Knoxville. But lets look on the bright side, Id rather be in this situation, then the 1 we was in bout 3 yrs ago when we struggled just to beat the bad teams. The 2007-2008 basketball season WILL be one for the ages. I guarantee you can mark it down.
