I dont mind the comments and tacking pokes at other sec coaches...but the thing about burning your bridges in florida recruiting pipelines, making retarded secondary infractions that make you look like you have no clue of what your doing is getting real old. i wanted something new like all of us but not at the expense of our tradition and reputation. does anyone else feal like we kind of sold our soul to the devil with bringing in this staff. they are good and we will probably start winning again...but they are all pretty slimey

Hate to break this to ya, but the business of college football has relocated from the Land of Oz...

After everything I've heard so far, I could care less what the media thinks of CLK. I only care about championships and beating UF & Bama.

Let's be honest, probation is more often tied to boosters giving cash to players than recruits running through smoke.

TN football isn't anywhere NEAR probation right now -- if we start giving money to players, then we damn sure deserve probation.

But don't use probation as a crutch to level the playing field between the old guard and the new.

It's not comparable in terms of recruiting / getting good players on campus.

It might turn out that Kiffin cannot coach Xs and Os, and I believe that TN will be in trouble if he can't. But for now, he's doing a great job. The UCLA game will be telling in my opinion because of the way it ended last year.

Coach O can recruit and is a decent position coach. He just cant HC worth a crap.
I;m not so sure that I agree with that statement. He told Ole Miss exactly how many years he needed to get the program where he wanted it. They cut him one short, and there waiting on the field, was a team
a bufoon could have won with. Seems to me he was squarely on his game

Got a little news for everybody.

UT has been a joke for the last four years. We have been bringing knives to gun fights.

Now, before anyone says "this is not about Fulmer", I can honestly tell you it is not. Until this football team starts stomping mud holes and walking them dry, we are going to be a punchline.

The hole we are digging out of is very deep. Just appreciate the fact that LK has a shovel, and has assembled an allstar coaching staff by all accounts. He did not...I repeat...he did not get us into this mess. Furthermore, there is very little that he can do until the kickoff of next season to talk us further into or out of it. When we start beating the Floridas, Bamas, and the LSUs of the world again people will then take notice. Until then it is really nothing more than opinion, and we all know what opinions are like.

I can appreciate how all opposing fans are looking at this with an outside perspective, I would do the same thing if another coach said some of the things as CLK. But the way I look at it is CLK called out CUM. Even though there is no rule about calling a recruit when they are on another campus, CUM still got called out for it. I would imagine that there is an "unwritten rule" that this is something you shouldn't do. I will bet you anything that CUM felt stupid when the news surfaced and ran to the AD. Most coaches including CLK tell their recruits/commitments to enjoy themselves and take all the visits that they can b/c it is a once in a lifetime opportunity. There are some coaches(not going to mention any names) that discourage there recruits from visiting other campuses or is it just UT. My question is why? And why coach would you call a recruit on another campus when he has already said that he is 100% committed to you? What are you so worried about?

As far as the recruiting violations go, give me a F'ing break. When I see these published, whether it be for UT or any other school I read right over them and forget about them tomorrow, unfortunately the media will not let us forget.

EXACTLY Smokey, Excellent post...

IMO, CLK knew there wasn't a rule against calling a recruit while he is visiting another campus. Urban knew exactly where Nukeese was and he was being a d1ck by blowing up his phone while in Knoxville. Hardly anyone seems to want to talk about that though. We might ruffle the mighty gators scales...

The comments CLK made were made in jest, but there was another purpose for them. He was 'calling CUM out' for it. Meyer seems to think he is entitled to behave like this for some reason and good ole Phil would've probably let it pass. I for one am glad Kif called him out over it. As I said though, MY opinion.

Obviously, Kiffin is not Fulmer (thank God). He's not going to sit back and let this kind of crap go. The 'Old Guard' (Fulmerites) need to get over the fact that Phil is gone and they are not in the loop anymore. This, once again, IMO is the reason local rags i.e. KNS are trying to burn Kiffin. The days of them having 'inside' access and sitting on their arse waiting for Phil to give them copy are gone. Kiffin doesn't kiss their collectice a$$. Make no mistake, they are pissed about this and they are on a mission to make him pay... No sources here, as I have said this is my opinion.

I am so tired of folks like Barny (Phil) constantly stirring the sh1t... You 'say' you're Vol fans, act like it and reserve judgement until Kiffin has had time to do the job. I think this guy is much smarter than many are giving him credit for and will make many eat their hats. If you're not a Vol fan, then I guess you're just a troll as they put it around here and that, IMO is just pathetic...

Rant over...

I'm out

when was the last time the state of illinois had a decent football team....hell they got ron zook who coached at florida and beat some slow ass big 10 teams who by the way OSU has choked in almost every BCS bowl game it has been in except for one that i can remember....How did the joke go....Why are OSU and marijuana so alike...They both get smoked in bowls!!!! Not only does Chicago have no clue about college athletics but they haven't been successful in pro sports since the Michael Jordan days...the cubs had a few good years but no world series appearances..The White sox are all they have and the sports writers don't really care about them in Chicago....So Chicago....You can shut your face!!!!

Coach Kiffin leaves rotten impression

February 14, 2009

Running off at the typewriter ...

How bad is it when an entire city is now protesting your college football coach?

And how bad is it when even your own athletic director essentially calls your football coach a liar?

Just ask University of Tennessee fans. In the last week, new coach/pathological liar Lane Kiffin has become the laughing stock of the entire country.

It was bad enough when the Pahokee Chamber of Commerce officially penned a letter of protest for derogatory remarks Kiffin made about Pahokee High School in the wake of signing Pahokee receiver Nu'Keese Richardson last week.

Then comes this: In the latest issue of Sports Illustrated, Kiffin claims he fired one UT employee and others had been "run off" because they could not keep up with his hectic work schedule. One problem: When the Knoxville News Sentinel checked on the story, UT Athletic Director Mike Hamilton said, "He has not fired anybody. If he said he has fired somebody, that's not true."

So let's review, shall we?

In the last few days, Kiffin has falsely accused Florida Coach Urban Meyer of breaking NCAA rules, broken NCAA rules himself, instructed a recruit to lie to the media, lied to the media himself, been reprimanded by the SEC, impugned the integrity of Pahokee High School, been forced to issue public apologies to Pahokee High and UF and, last but not least, proven Al Davis to be somewhat sane after all.

Points out one wise reader: With Lane Kiffin in charge, Rocky Top is starting to smell more and more like Rotten Top.

Are you crazy? Wait never mind you are!:)

Its obvious that all these "Football Experts" on here really don't know what they are talking about.Example#1 These experts are saying that we are embarrassing our University by these violations, Which in turn the media keeps churning out neg press. If all these so called "fans of UT" would educate themselves they would stop being lured to these neg stories, which in turn would stop the neg press.Fact#1 EVERY DIV I SCHOOL LAST YEAR REPORTED SECONDARY VIOLATIONS. The average was 7 relating to Football programs across the country. I did this research on my own since I'm home recovering from back surgery, nothing else to do.Anyway Fact#2 This neg press is being driven by the old guard that didn't want to see any change. That's the problem u have when someone is in position of leadership for long period of time.People DON'T LIKE CHANGE. Example#2: Has anyone noticed how many college players are being suspended or kicked off teams across the country for violating state laws (ie:DUI,etc)Fact#1: When was last time its been this quiet around UT with no players getting into trouble.Fact#2:That's what causes embarrassment to the University. People need to admit that CPF did not have control of the program. That's not going to be a problem now.The coaching staff we have in place now is going to win a lot of games and clean up the discipline problems we have had in the past. The Fulmer supporters need to get over the fact that he is not coming back and get on the Lane Train or find another team. For the ones that are easily swayed, Don't let the media brainwash you into believing that the program can only be run by who THEY think is best for the job.We will be just fine. Are we going have secondary violations, sure just like every other football program, embarrassment Please. When we start reading about our players in the Police blotter then you can talk embarrassment.DON'T LET THE MEDIA INFLUENCE WHAT YOU FEEL IS BEST FOR THE PROGRAM. Go Vols

If I could.. There is a rule now who can start a thread. I think a thread should be started titled ' The rest of the country as view by UT'.
