I am interested to see what the rest of you feel are the occupations of the least use or have become pretty worthless:
  1. Anyone who works for the IRS
  2. Government health advisors
  3. Public primary and secondary school teachers
  4. Government legislators
  5. Sheriffs & Police
I look forward to seeing the other lists.

I don't hate police. I just think their presence is utterly useless for about 95% of the things they end up reporting.

Just out of curiosity, why did #3 make that list.

I don't hate the police. My father was a police officer for 15 years. I've simply seen enough bad cops to have a healthy skepticism about the quality of law enforcement in America today.

So we should just give everyone guns and let them take business into thier own hands? We'll also volunteer your services for all other crimes, that way it's done right and more useful methods.

I can see why they would make the list. They are noble people, but they are failing right now and it's not all their fault.

Still, what are families supposed to do that can't afford to send their kids to private schools?

Without police, I'd be deprived of the hilarity that is our local police force in action thanks to our police scanner.

Yeah, I'd like a more detailed explanation as to why police aren't necessary.
I think they are necessary, but in much, much smaller numbers than are out there today. Then they would actually have to do more than sit under overpasses and wait for harmless speeders to come by.

So, most of the police force is useless, worthless, etc.

I'm still not sure why teachers don't get paid more. If they did, I think there would be better quality teachers with more competition.

If you lived in Memphis, you'd wish there were more cops. I've heard they are pretty corrupt here, but I'm still glad to see one when I'm walking around at night.

I agree there is WAY to many bad cops in this country and that's a shame. I also know alot of my fellow brothers and sisters don't go "all out" on some issues/crimes because there is honestly no use too this day and age because the courts will just turn them free anyways. The judicial system has ALOT of flaws but it's not all out on the streets or beats.

I am anti-police. The heavy handedness is too much, they serve a purpose, but sitting on the side of the highway with a radar gun to add ticket money to the local gov't coffers is not it.

Unfortunately, it seems they spend alot more time doing this than they do tackling matters of significance.

Is that a major or a minor in studies?

Guy who watches other guy operating a jackhammer.

Yes so true. I have worked in construction since I was 15. My dad's a contractor and he made me work with him so I would go to college.

That being said, the jackhammer watcher is a useless position.
