Excerpt from an on-line USA Today article by Matt Hayes published this evening:

"And now it’s time to cut him loose.

It’s time for Tennessee athletic director Danny White, one of the nation’s most proactive thinkers, to give coach Josh Heupel a contract extension to cut ties with quarterback Nico Iamaleava, who missed practice Friday while his representatives reportedly are trying to renegotiate his NIL deal. "

White and Heupel should publicly stand together and declare no player will hold a program hostage. Not now, not ever.

The storied program of Gen. Neyland and Johnny Drum and Peyton and I Will Give My All For Tennessee Today won’t stand for this crap. And won’t give another penny to Iamaleava.

Or any other player, now or in the future, who pulls these 11th-hour hijinks."

Can't really disagree with any of what was written

I'm sure Nico will get his money from someone.

I also think that team will have serious buyers remorse in the bitter end.

I know I kind of do. We were sold the next Manning and ended up getting a slightly better JG

Pay him and see how the season plays out. If yall think a transfer learning the system or merk/mac is ready, yall are crazy. Merk is an an 8 win season. This is the landscape of nil. Minor league football. If we don't have the money to pay him. Someone else will.

Your arguments are sound except paying sets a precedent for every player to hold out. The team just becomes a group of individuals. You have to set a standard and let him go.

His argument is based off absolutely nothing.

Merklinger had the better growth this spring and was a highly rated 4 star himself.

4000 yards of offense and 50 TDs for Calvary Day Georgia. Team went 13-1.

Had 3 TDs last Orange and White game??

I'll take an 8 win season to prove to these b!tch azz type players that this kind of "negotiation" won't be tolerated. If you attempt to hold the university hostage at the 11th hour for a money grab, we'll help you pack your things.

I keep hearing about Nico Iamgonnaleaveya's talent, but all he's shown so far is the massive amount of improvement he still needs to make. He can kick rocks.

If he hadn’t no showed, I would say negotiate a new deal with him and meet in the middle somewhere. His pre-medonna move to skip practice and ignore calls/texts from coaches tells me all I need to know about his true character.

Cut his azzz and invest in kids that want to be here.

Even if they are “just business” decisions you come to the table in good faith. Besides, after this stunt and its untold effect on the locker room, who is to say we won’t be an 8 win team with Nico

Round up all his belongings that are in Knoxville, tell him he has 1 hour to vacate the premises

Cut him loose. But disagree about this equating to an extension for JH. Nico was his hand picked guy. He chose poorly. I think he’s a great coach and I’m glad that we have him, but zero reason for him to benefit from this.

This is the 2nd time he has chose poorly at QB, because Milton was the first.

Agree completely.

Who writes these contracts? Why don't they have provisions for this type of shite?
Can’t blame Mike Hamilton on this one as bad as he was in contracts.

Todays frustration should be from vendors who supported his brand, and already went to print and manufacture with for the OW game. The kids traveling today to watch him play because tickets are cheap.
