USA Today Projects Dobbs...

Very little

I can think of a handful of games where Dobbs damn near won the game single handedly and if not for him, there's just no way we win...2014 SCar, 2014 Vandy.... without Dobbs we lose both those games and aren't bowl eligible for each of Jones' first 2 seasons. How might that have changed Jones' job security?

Then throw in Georgia 2015, Florida 2016.... both are losses without Josh.

Without those 4 games/wins, Butch is 5-7, 4-8, 8-5, 8-5...25-25 overall with only 2 bowl appearances in 4 seasons, undoubtedly a much bigger recruiting drop off than we've seen, nobody at any point picking us to win the division, certainly no SEC title.

And none of this factors in other games where Dobbs played well in losses and helped us even be competitive. Hell, I'm not sure we beat Kentucky last year without his 370 total yards and 5 touchdowns (we only won by 13 points while giving up 600+ yards and 36 points)

There's some truth to the statement imo.

2016 QB rating:
Peterman = 163.4
Dobbs = 150.7

I guess hot air and hype are better than actual numbers?

Last 2 seasons as starters at their respective schools-

Dobbs: 6,839 total yards, 65 touchdowns, 18-8 record as starter

Peterman: 5,660 total yards, 51 touchdowns, 16-10 record as starter

Hot air and hype?? Not hardly.

Broken Thumb doesn't help either.

Didn't break his thumb until second quarter, actually had "better" stats AFTER the injury. And the injury had nothing to do with his emotional freakout and lack of composure from the first snap he took that day vs Florida.

Not to mention vs exponentially better defenses.

Who had more passing yards? Better completion percentage? More total yards? Faced the tougher teams? Had more 300 yard passing games? Who had the better NFL combine results?

Actual numbers do matter. In fact, the only 2 numbers of any significance that Peterman bested Dobbs in was Y/A and INTs.

Oh, silly me. Why trust Petermans superior evaluation among NFL scouts, wonderlic scores, combine ratings and QB rating above Volnation spin doctors.

Why didn't I just consult D4H, or you first ?

Most people now have Dobbs ranked higher. Peterman's one good game was Clemson. He beat the champs so he is getting more hype than he should. He had 308 yards against Clemson. That was his career high and one 300 yard game of his career. Peterman is still horrible. He just got luck and had a decent game against the right team.

Sure. Peterman 'got lucky' against a lot of ranked competition last year. He then got really lucky at the Senior Bowl where he was the best QB, then got really lucky at the NFL combine where he shined, resulting in multiple NFL team interviews and a high Wonderlic score of 33.

Amazing how 'lucky' he suddenly became when given a chance.

Thank you for the stats. I really don't understand this love affair with Peterman and the desire for some to put down Dobbs.

Dobbs beat out Peterman at UT. Folks just need to get over it.

Don't throw stats at 114. His teams traditionally punted on first down. :)

Josh Dobbs is the only reason Butch Jones still has a job.

Your are correct. Just as Barnett.......et al....
Was it blind luck? Did this fruit just fall from the trees?

Are you saying Butch gets no credit for recruiting and developing them.?

How can we be sure that no other QB would have success in the same years.

I don't get it either. Just stick with the facts and the truth, it is what it is. Things didn't work out for Peterman at Tennessee, did a great job turning it around at Pitt. But Dobbs was and has always been the better college qb. Wish them both success in the league.

Dobbs never beat a ranked team? I like Peterman and I think his story is a great one but that kid never did what Dobbs did here. He had a few bad (one terrible) games but if I needed 12 yards, 10 times out of 10 I would give it to Dobbs.

And chances are he would get 13.

Look at the film, man. That kid carried the team more than a few times. Against not-ACC people.

He wasnt the best QB at the senior bowl. Dobbs shined at the combine and is getting much more buzz in the draft than Peterman. Just google it. Wonderlic is pointless. Everybody knows Dobbs intelligence is off the charts.

Fact is Peterman could not cut it at Tennessee and flourished at Pitt. Will he get drafted higher than Dobbs? Will he have a better NFL career than Dobbs? Who knows? Dobbs faced much tougher competition in college. Fact. Peterman had one really good game. Fact. Dobbs has had several games where he just absolutely took over and produced heisman worthy performances. Fact. Peterman did not. Fact.
