The only firm contradiction between the two is the time line. LWS says contact didn't happen until after the Orange bowl. The rest they could both be correct.

I think Dooley is trying to finalize the staff before announcing any decisions. He is in San Antonio and will announce when he is back in town. I am sure he has spoken to Shannon at least VIA telephone. All of these eronuous reports that he is looking for a DC is crazy. They have tobact quickly for recruiting.

Some crazy bastard in the General's Quarters on VQ is set in stone about it being Zook. Did one of those BS "Lifetime Ban Bets" if the new DC is anyone other than Zook.

this is his story:"I AIN'T SCARED TO SAY WHO I KNOW. HIS NAME IS CHRIS AND HE WORKS FOR ARMY CORPS ENGINEER AND HE'S WORKING UP AT U OF I RIGHT NOW SND THE GUY WHO IS RUNNING THE SHOW UP THERE IS ALSO IN THE ATHLETIC DEPT AT U OF I AND THEY WE WERE THERE TODAY WHEN ZOOK GOT WORD THE JOB WAS HIS"

Zook may be a good hire in 2 years but it won't be popular right now and may hurt this recruiting class. Shannon is the best hire right now.

Zook was fired on Nov 27. I am pretty sure he isn't still hanging around the U of I Athletic Department waiting on his next job offer in January.

Another good point that was made on SS was that Auburn is looking for a DC too. We will have to compete with them and they have a better situation for a coach to want to go to right now.

Bennett? Why in the world would you want him? Did you see Baylor's defense? Maybe we should only look at DC's who give up 40+ in their bowl games. From Bennett to Steele, both would be PR nightmares and bring no excitemement to the program, the fanbase or the recruits.

Tennessee: Word in San Antonio last night was that if anagreement can't be reached with Randy Shannon that Baylor defensive coordinator Phil Bennett would be asked to take the job. We'll keep you posted. PER football Scoop

I agree totally with Doc on this....but Zook does make some sense.....if and only if it was not a done deal with Shannon....
