Guy on TOS saying a friend from Illini was literally in the room when Zook got word the job was his. Offering life-time ban bets as well. JFYI

I don't think he is going to interview someone until they have an understanding on the principals of the deal, salary, length and buyout paramenters.

the contract will not be finalized for weeks if not months. a memo of understanding will be in place by announcement. I would be surprised if contract wouild be ready.

Dooley's first contract was not ready when he was announced.

I respect LWS and the info brought, but I have some serious questions about this latest update.

RS was, and still is, the DC to be announced. To say that RS was never contacted and that it was Steele until his Orange Bowl
debacle is simply not true based on what I know.

Checked back in late last night and nothing had changed with RS. Still hammering out details on contract and additional staff. Dooley has been talking with other coaches during this conference/meetings but not for the DC job. Still looking to fill the other support/position coach positions.

Unless something huge happens and RS falls through,
(which everyone would hear about I'm sure), then RS will be (is already) the new DC. I stand solid in that. The only change i could see would be pushing the official announcement back a day or two, but I still look for it to come out tomorrow (Monday).

I do agree with the contract vs memorandum of understanding. Just know when I talk about "hammering out the contract details" I don't mean the physical paper contract, rather the TERMS that will be contained in it. The official paperwork is always weeks (or months) later--but the general working terms have to be outlined prior to starting.

Haha I bet he does.

Unfortunately I could care less about bets or ban bets or whatnot. Whether it's good info or bad info, I appreciate all of the updates people bring to VN. I just try to do my part and bring what I BELIEVE to credible to VN and you guys can decide what you want to believe. This is one of those instances.

I've posted it before . . . I can't believe that guy would get allowed back on campus after what he was part of in the 90s.

If it gives us the best chance to win, then I'm all for it.

I don't think it's Shannon either. It doesn't take a week or more to hammer out a contract, and also Dooley has never met with Shannon. The Shannon train is one the fans and bloggers have been pushing, and I don't think it's happening. Lots of people going to be disappointed with it.

Zook is also the guy that shows up at fraternity houses late at night. We don't want that guy.

I agree with you about Randy Shannon though. He's obviously a good DC, but somewhere along the way he got turned into some kind of mythical guru.

I know, just had to mess with you when I saw his wager. I think it is silly to think anyone outside those involved in the hiring process knows 100%. Some may know people, and feel they are getting good info., but it is what it is.

Yeah, if Shannon doesn't have the legacy recruits from Davis and Coker, then he wouldn't have had the defenses he had. His Miami teams were pedestrian at best during his tenure.

I'll say it again. There looks to be some serious in house propaganda at work even on this board following the news basically breaking early, even from the UT AD saying they were negotiating with Shannon.

Now might they delay 2 days for the coup de grace announcement of all new staff, sure and good for them if they do. Anything else though would be an abject failure by Hart.

Zook would be a laugh and dissapointment. Imagine the Zook 1.0 and 2.0 jokes around here.

So where have people heard of Zook at frats? I mean I've heard that when he was at Florida o wait 6 freaking years ago!!! People look at this objectively. Its funny y'all are giving Stallworth a fair objective assessment in the other thread but y'all are putting your orange glasses on with Zook. Yea ZOok would be a letdown after all te Shannon mess but I would take him as a second option. Really who, as in decision makers, really cares about what happened in 91? Serious issues if anyone says they care.

I don't think Shannon is a guru but he does have about everything you could ask for in his pedigree. He's easily top 5 for realistic and available DC's out there.

1. NFL player
2. NFL coach
3. National name recognition & recruiting
4. Good-Great DC statistical record
5. Clean image despite dirt around him
6. HC experience, gives illusion he knows more than a DC that hasn't right or wrong
7. Outstanding NFL player list to say he helped recruit and develop
8. He's black, which I think helps in recruiting
9. Previously long tenures
10. No baggage or bad press of leaving another school right before NSD.

Plain and Simple: We don't have a full staff announced by our big recruiting weekend then it is a complete failure on Hart and Dooley. I really hope they are just playing the media and everything is already in place.
