He's only coached Women players and doesn't have all that much experience. The only one to do it was Van Chancellor. He Coached Men's basketball at Troy and Women's basketball at Ole Miss.

Haha... just a matter of time before someone brought his name up. I was waiting on this. lol

I just thought of it myself. I came here, and somebody already beat me to it. I am sooooooo glad they did! haha

Talk about a grand experiment. We might just shock the world.

This is basketball's version of Gruden, if you ask me.:lolabove:

Either one of those guys would be fine with me. Although I think Howland would kill it here.

If he can go somewhere and make $2.5-3 million does she really need to work a $70k a year professor job?

I don't know what she does. But maybe she is happy and they have an agreement that just because he coaches doesn't make his career more important than hers. Who knows.

This is my first post so take it for whatever you want.

1. Maya Smart does not teach at VCU. She runs her own business. She likes Richmond. To get Shaka, you have to convince her and she will decide what is best for her & her family outside of what is only best for Shaka's career.

2. Shaka did not turn down UCLA per se. He never progressed to the stage of being interviewed/getting an offer. UCLA moved in a different direction pretty early during contact with Shaka.

3. VCU is tapped out resource-wise for the basketball program. They cannot expand their output too much more without it being not worth it for them.

4. Marq. was rumored to have offered $3.0+ so it's probably not about just money with him.

His contract at VCU runs through 2023. He's waiting for something bigger than UT and he'll eventually get it.

And you get a like from me just so your ratio of likes to posts is 100%. You're on your own from here on out.

So? It doesn't change that he's probably the best at a place like he is now; a league where 1 team gets a bid and he's good enough to make Harvard that team.

The only place I hear his name for coaching jobs is here.

Yes, Harvard is a decent squad, but Amakers benefitted from a league that generally stinks and doesn't have to play in a conference tournament. The other other traditional powers in the Ivy---Cornell, Penn and Princeton have been pedestrian at best the last couple of years making it a relatively easy path for Harvard to win the league and get into the NCAA...

Patrick Chewing coaching the Vols?!

How could you not give the man a call? The Bobcats made the playoffs, . Not to mention... Al Jefferson is posting career numbers. I found this most intriguing though from a Boston Herald article: “Working with Patrick Ewing, we have not worked on one offensive move yet — it’s all about defense,” Jefferson said of the area where he has made the greatest strides. “But (the Charlotte coaches) let me know it’s OK to be an old school, back-to-the-basket kind of guy. That’s what makes me so special. There’s only a handful of guys who still do that. Today you have bigs out by the 3-point line, and I understand that’s the game. But I’m going to ride it out until they tell me to go back to Mississippi.”
In all seriousness though, He's a 51 year old Hall of Famer (with a Space Jam appearance) who wants a HC'ing chance in anything but the D League. Worth the call in my book.

Exactly; which why I say Amaker is exactly where he should be.
