Why in god's name would you be miserable? You guys were campaigning to have Martin fired less than a month ago. Now he's gone, you have your pick of several coaches and you don't have to pay his buyout.

UTK looks a little rad-faced because the fans basically drove away a coach that just went to the Sweet 16, but I'd say the job looks no worse than it did when you hired Cuonzo.

No links, and no real solid information really. I shouldn't have even said he was interested, but rather that he has been poking around.

I don't know if interest or even conversation is mutual.

All I know is that Dino has asked around the coaching/media community trying to get information about the job.

FWIW- Rucker just said on Hookers show he thinks these are 3 probable (realistic) candidates that UT ends up with according to his sources after the big names turn us down.

I would be fine with these types of names. It is the step down below that which bothers me

i want Michael White. that guy can win, run an offense, and is considered one of the best recruiters in the south. we need to hire him rather than get embarrassed and keep striking out like we did with the football search.

White would be a decent hire that you could get cheap. Sort of risky to hitch your wagon to another 3rd year HC with no tourney experience. His resume reads a lot like Martin's when UTK hired him.

Record is better, has more postseason success (NIT quarterfinal run isn't terrible), got LA Tech an AP Top 25 rankings (which, considering it isn't the 1980s, is pretty difficult to achieve), etc.

Yup, but as Martin showed, success at a lower tier conference doesn't necessarily translate to the SEC.

White is an SEC guy though, and would probably be a better personality fit than Martin.

Agreed on both parts. His personality fits in really well with something fans would want to get behind, IMO

Let's go ahead and rule out Chris Mack from that earlier tweet. Turned down $2 mil/yr from UT in 2011, is a Xavier alum, etc.

White also had one of the best offenses in the country. Plays fast, scores big, and out-rebounds. but the thing that sells me on White is his recruiting and especially his recruiting in the South. I just see a great fit at UT

Called "energetic" and "ambitious" by Yahoo and is very likable by all accounts I've seen. Also, he's a workaholic and was known as a great recruiter when at Ole Miss.
