You know, I might get skewered for this, but there is a guy sitting on the bench in Murfreesboro that has a world of experience, a high basketball IQ, and would probably fit what Hart wants to pay. Monte Towe. He has put a lot of guys in the NBA. Don't know if he wants to be a HC again after his experience at UNO, but he is a player development wiz. Might be worth a look.
Hate to say it, but I don't really think Michigan's a basketball powerhouse. They've had a great run under Beilein, but you have to consider a program's long-term history as well. You can't convince me they were playing powerhouse basketball from 1999-2008. Have they been pretty good on a regular level? Yes. But they weren't consistently a top-tier school until the mid-80s.
It is all about providing as much as possible long term for their family. If you think these coaches care about the schools more than what is best long term for their family then you are not looking at reality.
What is best is how much they can make for as many years possible so if the coaching run ends they will be set financially. It is about money, length of contracts, and buyouts that help if things go wrong or allows them to go somewhere else to help with them being set financially for as long as possible.
Martin left because long term he gets a lot of money for four years instead of a possible one and done with a buyout. He does the math and looks at where he is going and makes the decision.
If we pay the right coach enough money and structure it where he feels the dollars over so many years set his family up better than where he is at, he will come.
Buzz Williams would've come but he went somewhere else because he can add it up just like they all do.
