Unofficial Coaching Search Thread

There is no reason UT can't be a powerhouse in mans basketball. We have the money, the stadium, and the fans. Bruce showed everyone what can and should be done here.

What's most common among pretty much every basketball powerhouse? That's the number one sport at that school. Basketball will never be number one at Tennessee no matter how much you may want it to.

How many programs has Shaka turned down the last few seasons? I don't see him deciding UT is the place he wants to be, so I really don't get where some posters think we would have a shot at him.

Hate to say it, but I don't really think Michigan's a basketball powerhouse. They've had a great run under Beilein, but you have to consider a program's long-term history as well. You can't convince me they were playing powerhouse basketball from 1999-2008. Have they been pretty good on a regular level? Yes. But they weren't consistently a top-tier school until the mid-80s.

You know, I might get skewered for this, but there is a guy sitting on the bench in Murfreesboro that has a world of experience, a high basketball IQ, and would probably fit what Hart wants to pay. Monte Towe. He has put a lot of guys in the NBA. Don't know if he wants to be a HC again after his experience at UNO, but he is a player development wiz. Might be worth a look.

Monte Tower left MTSU a couple of weeks ago. Not sure why.

Well tennesee has more deep history then Florida and Florida is a top tier school

I'll admit I'm not nearly as knowledgeable as some of you seem to be on your college basketball coaches, so I firmly expect to have to google our next coach to find out what the hell he's done. We won't get Shaka, we won't get Marshall, we'll buy on the cheap again and hope he turns out to be a diamond. And I don't think it's Hart's fault necessarily, I think Cheek has given him specific numbers to work with and that's going to severely limit his options. I've said before, and I'll say again, Cheek is an educator, not a businessman. The concept of spending money to make money alludes him and he should in no way control the purse strings to UT's biggest moneymaker. Winning increases revenue, but he has his head so far up his own ass about building his academic vision of UT that he fails to recognize a strong AD will only help fund that dream.

It is all about providing as much as possible long term for their family. If you think these coaches care about the schools more than what is best long term for their family then you are not looking at reality.

What is best is how much they can make for as many years possible so if the coaching run ends they will be set financially. It is about money, length of contracts, and buyouts that help if things go wrong or allows them to go somewhere else to help with them being set financially for as long as possible.

Martin left because long term he gets a lot of money for four years instead of a possible one and done with a buyout. He does the math and looks at where he is going and makes the decision.

If we pay the right coach enough money and structure it where he feels the dollars over so many years set his family up better than where he is at, he will come.

Buzz Williams would've come but he went somewhere else because he can add it up just like they all do.

I don't know about Buzz Williams but Buzz Peterson is unemployed and in need of work.:birgits_giggle::yuck:

talked to a friend who is a HS ref who said a connected AAU guy out there knows the players and they have no respect for Pastty at all would be a terrible hire

Josh is a lousy coach who benefits from being in a lousy conference. Tennessee should be able to do better(but I don't know that it can)!

Josh Pastner.
